xenia question
i had a question about your Xenia, does it pulse?
|
Might for you but not for me. I can't seem to get any xenia to pulse in my tanks.
|
Have you checked the water quality?

My system is geared towards sps so the water quality is very good.
|
How old are your bulbs? my xenia never pulsed until i upgraded my lighting system.
|
My lights are not the problem. I'm not sure
if pom pom xenia does pulse. |

Also if you have a wavebox hooked up its really hard to get it to pulse, or at least until the waves stop. Some varieties of Pom Poms pulse.
|
I had xenia pulsing like crazy under a pc light so I doubt thats your issue,I'm no expert but if its in a sps tank it sounds like your flow is too high for it.....or
maybe your light is too intense. Or maybe its being stung by one of your sps at night? |
i had great xenia untill i got more into sps and upgraded my flow and lighting from PC to high MH and then the xenia went to ****
|
I have some xenia that snuck into my 175g on a powerhead, It's about 8" below a 250w mh light, lots of flow and its growing and pulsing like crazy. I don't think anyone really knows why they pulse or what causes them to stop but I suspect they love a high nutrient tank

im 95% sure that is not xenia listed on your site. i have the same stuff and was sold as xenia, its accutally called Anthelia or something like that.
|
I think they are just diffrent types of xenia. I have 2 types, one is more purplish color and does not pulse, it is a pompom xenia. The other is a waving pulsing xenia and it is more pink and sways out extending much longer. It looks liek a mix between the pom pom and the anthelia kind of.
My Anthelia is also long and wavy as well. |
Anthelia key to id, always arise directly from the basal encrusting mat.
Xenia typically has a stalk and branches |

The tank environment....lighting, flow, etc will greatly affect the way xenia looks and grows. Same goes for pretty well any coral for that matter. |
xenia grows in tall stalks that looks more like a tree, anthelia always grows like a mat and will never really have 2 polyps come out of one stalk.
