Can anyone help me identify this crab???? I am new here and have had my sw tanks for about a year.
Thanks Finny |

Thanks...
looks like it may be some type of mithrax crab, it has the same type of claws as the mithrax (ie. emerald crab)

It just kinda appeared... Should I worry about it?? Don't have anything in that tank at the moment but a couple of pom pom crabs, a fire shrimp and a pepermint shrimp....
if you have a sump you may want to throw in there and get a better pic, then decide what you want to do with it after its been determined what kind of crab it is.
I havent had any issues (with crabs:smilecol:) myself but from what i have heard its just a crap shoot as to what it will and will not eat. |
i don't have a sump right now... I am moving soon and when I set up the tank in the new house I am going to set up a sump..
you could trap it and get a pic leaving it in a margerine container in you tank so you could get rid or release when info is found.
Will try...lol... little bugger is tricky to find most times but will try thanks....
good luck!!!!!! do you know of any traps?

Got him in a plastic container with a bit of sand to keep it on the bottom... I just want to make sure he is not going to be harmful to my tank seeing he just appeared one day....

Thanks... I will try that... not very computer savy but I will give it my best shot...lol.. Going to take the pic to a couple of my fav fish stores to see if they can help too.. thanks for your help
Ok so this is what I found out.... the fish store said it was a black crab... so I did a bit of research... when young can be reddish brown... when they grow up will pick at the fish when they sleep... not in my tank anymore...
