New Process for Joining Canreef

Q: Is there a new step involved in signing up as a member to Canreef? I notice I now have to wait for approval on my account.

A: Yes, due to recent spamming attacks involving porn and commercial advertising links, we have now enforced a policy whereby a new member must have their account authorized before they can post. This will reduce or elliminate the spam posts we've seen lately.
Typically an account will be authorized within hours of applying to the board.

While we realize this extra step is bothersome, we feel it is needed to ensure that current members do not have to be exposed to questionable material.

Good call....although the spam attack on Bulk Reef Supply's forum this morning *did* give me a good sized chuckle this morning :D

Veng68 10-01-2008 08:10 PM

was it as "interesting" as the spam on the chemmaster forum ;)

Cheers,
Vic

Oh it was "interesting" ewwwwwwww.......

Good idea...there are several forums that I belong to with the same process. It works well, sometimes I get a bit choked as I want to look NOW...but it usually passes quickly!

rocketlily 10-01-2008 08:31 PM

I agree it was interesting this morning, but I do agree with the new policy.

This actually shouldn't affect "looking." Visiting as unlogged-in still allows reading of posts. :) It's only posting privileges that are affected.

Correct. A new user can log in and look, they just can't post until authorized.

We still have all the posts, which could be forwarded, for let's say, $2 :)

Just kidding!

cash

rocketlily 10-01-2008 10:07 PM

I think worth more than $2

I was so glad I logged on at home this morning first. I never log on at home in the morning, and usually wait to work. Definitely one of those times I'm glad I checked at home. Funny though, I was totally expecting something else when I clicked on a couple of the posts.

scuglass 10-01-2008 10:32 PM

shoot, missed out again :(

lastlight 10-01-2008 10:48 PM

Well can someone provide links if we *do*?

Geez, now I'm thinking it might be worth coughing up the 2 bucks

ahh, I get it. You posted under the thread in the Q&A forum, there are two of these threads. Sorry about that, guess it's a bit confusing. It's still there, BTW.

I'm gonna move that post and lock that thread, no sense in having two threads

edit: that didn't work as well as I'd hoped as it moved it chronologically. Anyway, Lastlight your post is on page 2 I think. Sorry about the confusion!

lastlight 10-02-2008 02:13 AM

my bad guys sorry :)

I had done a search for my username and it showed my last post as being a while back (weird) so I wrongly assumed the post had been removed.

Keep up the fab work.

Der_Iron_Chef 10-02-2008 06:32 AM

I'll only charge $1, instead of the greedy mods, who are charging $2!

Paypal accepted.

michika 10-02-2008 03:58 PM

I have some spare change and pocket lint. What can I get for that?

BC564 10-02-2008 09:22 PM

I know it was a good one.....I actually looked twice to see where the heck I was and what did this have to do with fish........Can you say....Spicey.....
