Real estate in Calgary
Man, whats going on in Calgary with the housing market right now? My house has been on the market for over a month with no real bites! That doesn't seem normal to me? Anyone looking to buy a house?
Anyone else notice a real drop in the market in Calgary? |
Absolutely, the market's gone down. I've noticed houses asking 20K less than they were in May/June. Pretty nuts.
I'll be looking to buy in the next year or so. |
its the same here in the interior of BC. Sellers are looking to get a fortune, and buyers are not into paying a hundred grand more then they should. And thats not an exaggeration. people just are not buying. its about time in my opinion. sorry to you sellers!

About three years ago it took 3 to 6 mounths to sell a house. People had stop spot buying, and are looking around more, for exactly what they won't.

i worked on some houses they were 2 per ot new infills the asking price was10k less than a million. in my opinion these were not worth more than 350k.
just bitter at the fact i didnt buy a house 5 yeas ago. but whos thinking of buying a house at 25. |

Hmm, we've had over 20 viewings in the month of August but no offers. I think we priced our house right based on what the rest were actually seeling for, not what they were originally listed for. Hopefully now that everyone is back from holidays someone will be interested in our place.
On a good note, I thinks we're getting a pretty fair deal in Castlegar. |
The market has slowed down a lot in Edmonton, but I'm not sure about Calgary.
About 3 years ago when the market was just starting to heat up in Edmonton I couldn't sell my condo for the life of me. After 8 months I finally got a better Realtor who let me know that I was overpriced. The condo above mine sold for 91K and I originally had mine listed for (what I thought was reasonable) 89K. I was able to sell it (almost a year later after first listing it) for 73k  My condo was fully renovated but because it was a basement suite with one bedroom I had to sell for 20k less then my neighbours one floor up from me  |

That's when I bought my first house, with an interest rate over 14%!! But now, 20 years later, the rates are way down, but the houses cost 5x as much!! Think I'm gonna keep this one a while :) |
Did the DIY thing in Edm ~3 years ago, by the time I had pounded in the third "FS by Owner" sign around the corner, the cell was already ringing, two days later was sold to the guy that viewed it the first night (and for a fair bit more than a Realtor who came by offered). Good luck now specially in Edmonton and Calgary.
