Looking for something to do this weekend Calgary?

Come on down to the Calgary Arts & Tattoo Festival (http://www.calgarytattoos.com/) if you don't have anything else to do. The show also features Dodegball, and 6 Roller Derby game put on by the Calgary Roller Derby Association (calgaryrollerderby.com/)

$25 entry, and $11 to park.

EmilyB 09-01-2008 09:04 AM

$25 ? :surprise: My daughter and I were thinking about it but, $50 for two of us plus parking...holy....I gotta save up a lot more for that tattoo I guess...

michika 09-01-2008 02:56 PM

It was $10 last year in advance, and $15 at the door. The price jump is huge!

Too bad I didn't know there where people from canreef going to be there. It would have been nice to have a coffee and chat for a bit.

The convention was great and the after parties were a blast to say the least.
Here's a couple of pic's of a piece I got from Aaron Bell. I should have gotten some pic's right afterward, but was crazy busy at our booth and didn't have time. The tattoo is in the ugly phase of the healing process and I took the pic's myself minutes ago. It's 22cm X 23cm and goes over the elbow and through the ditch(ouch!). The top of it ties into the mask on my upper arm and shoulder blade.

I wait for this convention like a kid waits for Christmas.

I was very fortunate and got an entire day with Aaron Bell, which I booked many, many moons(see months) ago.

He worked on my dark themed arm for the whole time.

I'll have a full day with him again next year.

I think the line-up of artists and vendors was better, but it seemed as if the turnout was very low in comparision. Maybe these increases played a big part in that.

My freind has someone that's very cost effective for laser removal. Did you want me to get you some contact info? Also Sondra at Arthouse in Kensington just got the latest and greatest equipment laser removal equipment available. Won't be cheap, but she's top of the pile at everything she does.

Delphinus 09-02-2008 04:04 PM

Can't you just get a skin coloured tattoo to go over it? ;)

EmilyB 09-02-2008 06:11 PM

Gary, please PM me that info and I'll pass it along. She had a small heart tat done and it looks like a bum....which maybe reminds her of the bum she had the heart tat done for....

We've decided that next year we will just be showcasing ourselves for one day instead of 3. My legs and feet ache like nobody's business today. I saw lots of fantastic work, and while I myself am tattoo free, there are a few artists that I'm going to check out a little further.

Nice work G1GY!

G1GY 09-07-2008 07:21 AM

Thanks Catherine, I appreciate the compliment on the work.

If and when you decide to get tattooed.......... Feel free to contact me for any questions or for some great artists names and contact info. I've been around this industry since I was a teenager and follow it very closely.

I have a few people I have my eye on, but some of them are booked up MONTHS in advance. I want a pin-up girl done, but need help shaping my idea.

G1GY 09-07-2008 05:19 PM

Pin-ups are some of my favorite tattoos when they're well done.(And I like them even more when they're worn by women.)
IMHO Steve Peace does the best pin-ups in this part of the world. He recently started booking only one month in advance. So this means that every day that passes opens another day in his crazy schedule.

Here's his myspace.

And his studio.

Steve will be who I chose if I ever decide to incorperate a pin-up into my skin at some point.

michika 09-09-2008 02:26 AM

Ah Steve! He comes out to watch derby sometimes. He is up there on my list.

Parker 09-09-2008 05:29 AM

Derrick from Capital in Edmonton does good work also, if you ever get back this way.
