True Perc Found.
 

It's been a rough week for me and the tank. I've been super discouraged but things are mellowing out.

Bought a pair of true perc's on Tuesday which settled in very well.. amazing fish. Unfortunately I woke up today to find the female on the carpet :( I thought my Coralife PC fixture would have for sure kept the fish inside the tank, but I guess she cleared the small space between the tank and fixture.

Anywho, long story short, I would like to find another larger true percula to get a mated pair again here. If you see any true percs around town let me know or shoot me a PM. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I was so confused when I saw the title of this thread.. Sorry to hear about the carpet surfer.

Yeah, I figured some would be.

It really sucks... something must have startled her in their sleep, because as of 11:30pm they were asleep on the bottom corner of the tank..

What sucks even more is that I woke up, looked in the tank, didn't see the two clowns together, looked on the floor, and the fish was literally an inch from my foot (almost stepped on the poor bugger)

I picked him up, cupped him into the tank with my hand to see if there were any signs of life... no luck. The female was so beautiful too.. I guess this is what I get for not covering it up. I honestly thought that the fixture would stop a larger fish from jumping... but she must have made that small clearance.

Errrrr!!! I hate mix matching clown pairs... I'll never find the same beautiful female.. just amazing colouration on her :(

I saw a pair of true percs yesterday at Ocean City. You may want to trade the single in and get an existing pair to avoid the mixed matching.

Hmm, the last pair of true perc's I seen at ocean city were the one's I purchased haha.

You could be right. "Yesterday" may have been Tuesday.

It sounds stupid, but I swear that male clownfish is lonely. He's kind of swimming about the tank like "where'd she go?" .. "maybe behind this rock..." ahhah

Anyhow, I purchased some Egg Crate today. Took me a bit to find some near my work, but done deal now. No more carpet surfing. I should have known better.

There is a thread or two on here from a few weeks ago, maybe a few months ago, where people were using a kind of netting instead of eggcrate. Apparently it's something used in gardens to keep birds from eating your salad. Anyhow, the pictures people posted looked really good. It's like fishing line material for invisibleness, allows more air transfer, withstands the heat from halides just fine, and just looks "better" than eggcrate. I'll see if I can find the thread, it might be something to look into. Do the eggcrate for now since you got it (I use eggcrate too), but like I said it may be something to consider down the road.

Ohh, very cool! Thanks for sharing that. Definitely something to look into next week. Eggcrate is an eye sore, and I am wondering how much troubles I am going to run into using the Coralife PC Fixture. Last I used eggcrate, I was using a 250w DE pendant.. so I am sure the PC's won't melt the eggcrate? Sure hope not anyways!

Got a true perc tonight. Was worried about them pairing up, as the male is a fair size and I was worried I'd end up with two females, vise versa. I went right from work and luckily found a beautiful perc. I would say probably the best orange coloration mixed with black I have yet to see. They paired up instantly, it was quite a sight to see. I put the new perc in, and they were side by side the second it was introduced. It worked out very nicely.

And just to note, I have put eggcrate on the tank now.
