Baby Felicia is born today!!!!
 

Irene's doc asked us to go in to Burnaby General to get the inducing process started at 10am Thursday. Then we plan to go do some more shopping, maybe catch the new Indy movie (yeah right), go home to pack up everything and wait for the contractions to start. Got all the stuff piled up by the front door already.

So the great adventure is about to begin in earnest and we are all so looking forward to Felicia Rueh Ing Shieh's birth.

Felicia = Delight, happiness, joy
Rueh = Thunder (taken from my name as per Chinese tradition)
Ing = Intelligent, wise
Shieh = ?? (I have no idea)

I will try to update this thread when I can or call a friend to post on here any news.

Congrats in advance! My wife was also induced but due to complications we had to stay in the hospital, it would be nice to get out for a bit before the labour starts. Enjoy today, It is a day you will never forget!

So excited, woke up after less than 4 hours sleep. Now I'm gonna be tired later today.

If I can, I'll post pics up as soon as possible. Here's praying that it will be a smooth and easy birth.

Despite my personal desires to the contrary, my family have already told me that Felicia is going to be one extremely spoiled little girl, since she is the first grandchild on my side of the family for my parents. My sister and brother are already playing the role of favourite aunt and uncle, with all their presents and Felicia isn't even born yet:surprise::mrgreen:

Well, it's off to the hospital in less than 2 hours.

Irene & Felicia will be staying full-time at my mom's for the first month (Chinese tradition) so my mom can teach Irene how to be a new mom.

I'll be running back & forth doing renos (building a big deck out back for the one month old party (another Chinese tradition).

Funny thing is, our family has never been that adamant about holding onto Chinese traditions, but I guess that changes when you have your own "rugrat":biggrin:

Irene will be in charge of teaching her languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien, FooChow) and music (piano).

I'll be in charge of her academics (math, English, sciences, socials, etc.)

My parents and siblings are in charge of spoiling her silly and then handing her back to us to deal with a "little Princess" (oh great)

And so the grand adventure begins....

Felicia is also going to learn how to help Daddy with water changes of course:biggrin:

Wow, you type a lot for a guy who's wife is going into labour today. :p

Best of luck with everything. I can tell you that no matter how much you plan, there will still be curve balls, so at some point, just stop planning so much and hang on tight because it's gonna be a wild ride. :)

No baby yet. They gave her something to get her body ready so it may be either early morning or some time tomorrow for certain (hopefully:biggrin:)

Went for Vietnamese noodles then watched Indiana Jones III before going shopping for a 5-in-1 bassinet.

Home now & resting. Waiting for the contractions to get stronger and more frequent.

So Irene is back in the hospital tonight. They had given her something to start the process of preparing her body for giving birth and now she's having contractions but is not dilated enough so the doc decided its best to stay overnight. In all likelihood, the next time she leaves the hospital, it'll be with our little bundle of joy in our arms. The doc says now that Friday night latest, but could be as early as some time in the wee hours tonight.
Btw, working till realllly late for several nights in a row & getting a max of 4 hours/night of sleep is a really lousy way to prepare for the birth of your first born. I guess I'll have to get used to this feeling of sleep deprivation. That's what Red Bull is for!!!

Hey everybody
Felicia was born today around 1128 AM, weighing in at 7 lbs 14 oz, and 56 cm long. Mom pushed for 18 minutes and POP out comes the baby girl.

Mom and Dad are doing well.

Congrats!! Great news :)

Well, we went in to Burnaby General again at 9:30pm last night. Irene had some bleeding so they kept her overnight. By 11:16 I was calling my parents to come right away because they were about to have her start pushing. By 11:28am, baby Felicia had popped out and was ready to meet the new world. Downloading pics now. I'll post asap.

7hrs of labour total, but the most painful part was actually done in 12 minutes. She's 56cm long, 36cm head circumference, and 7lbs 13.7 oz. Full head of hair & has MY eyes, nose, and mouth, but Irene's hair and eyebrows. Not quite the equitable mix, but she's a cutie:D
