what other type of Tang for my 150

Well as you all know that I have my new tank and I was thinking of going with another fish for the display.
I have a KOLE tang in there now with a foxface. I probably going to loose the foxface due to he like to nip at my clams. so out with the old and in with the new........... BUT WHAT NEW ????
orange shoulder tang
achillies
powder brown
powder blue
what would you reefer put in the tank if there is another tang that you would add.......

Four tangs in a 150 seems like plenty already to me...besides you already have an Achilles, so what more would you want?

Personally, the hype of the Black Tang...I don't get it. They're only expensive because they are rarely imported due to being scarce in the wild. Why people would want a fish like that is beyond me. I say leave them in the ocean then!

go back and read the question again...... im asking what tang would you pick out of all of them..

Myka 05-30-2008 01:17 AM

Oh LMAO!!!! Even when I re-read, it doesn't seem particularly clear to me whether you already own those listed, or whether you're picking between them.

My vote is Achilles obviously...

marie 05-30-2008 01:24 AM

If I was picking a tang for myself I would go with a powder brown. I love my achilles dearly but he really doesn't belong in a glass box

Skimmerking 05-30-2008 01:24 AM

ya i love the achillies ,but they are funny for time lines for living the 3-6 -9 fish
the first 3 weeks
then the 6 month time line
and then 9 month time line if thye get pass those datws you are good to go .

Marie I know what you mean I used to own one and loved it so much. that was my second choice the PBT

marie 05-30-2008 01:31 AM

I've had mine for 2 years and except for the first stressful (for me) 6 weeks he has never been ill or bothered by parasites.
But my 175g bowfront is just too small for him, he uses up every available space and then some and he can swim fast. I must lose a gallon of water a day just from the water he flips out of the tank with his tail

I love mine also...but I often think the same thing. They are just REALLY active fish and need a very large tank.

I like the Powder Brown from the list.

Skimmerking 05-30-2008 01:36 AM

yes I know i thought about a clown tang ,but i think that 150 gal is too small for him or her.

michika 05-30-2008 03:43 AM

I like the orange shoulder tang a lot, nice vibrant personality, and they are super cool to watch them change.

If you go with any of the powder tangs, or the achilles, I would hope you can find one second hand. I so rarely hear of them doing well from LFS to tank. You need one like Marie's tang.

What kind of Kole do you have? Yellow ring?

Skimmerking 05-30-2008 03:49 AM

i have the yellow eye kole

Pan 05-30-2008 03:49 AM

Powder greys are nice...

michika 05-30-2008 03:52 AM

Those are awesome tangs. They stay small, nice and docile! I'm sure you could get away with almost any tang if you are worried about personalities clashing.

Are you able to get all the tangs you listed? Did you pick them for any particular reason?

I have one, and its awesome. I am so worried about it dying though.

Skimmerking 05-30-2008 03:53 AM

those are the ones tha i love best

Skimmerking 05-30-2008 03:57 AM

i had a baby tommi tang but the kole was a butt head to it and the little guy jumped.

naesco 05-30-2008 05:30 AM

Hands down the powder brown (japonica). Don't confuse it with the similar looking tang with no orange on it. Had mine for years
The orange shoulder grow to be rather drab looking and mean.
The powder blue tends to do well than die for no reason and take the other fish with it
The anchilles are iffy. Some make it most don't. They need lots of varied food and highly oxygenated water.
