Skimmer king's 150 inwall mixed reef "Retiring this Weekend"

Well I have started another thread due to my better half is all done with daycare so I get my RecRoom back, this tank will be 60x24x24 with 1/2"glass euro braced around. the sump will be 30x16x18 the reason for a smaller sump the laundry room and the fish room will have a wall that will share a wall to separate them. I was going to use my old 75 gal sump but its not going to work to where I want it to be. So spend more money. the tank will have something different for a over flow I went with a box in the back left corner just because I hate the over flow boxes that take up alot of tank space. Lighting will be 2x250's on a Galaxy electronic ballast bought from Doug here. THANKS DOUG:mrgreen: Im going to pick up some lumenarc reflectors and run 12K reeflux bulbs. I will have a 8 bulb t-5 tek lighting system for sale when ever i get around ordering my lumenarc reflectors too. the tank will sit around 24" off the ground recessed in 4" to have a nice ledge around it. the trim is from home Depot 6-1/2" I find that a wide trim enhances the tank. SO enough typing here are some pic's keep in mind this build will take soem time since I will be heading back to Afghanistan on June 7th until Sept time frame.

the trim didnt match up on the cut thank god for paintable silicone.. i will take a shot once the trim is all painted and all the touch ups are done...
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04279.jpg

and here is the tank the last one I mean it too.... and I'm getting a sink for my skimmer which will be on the left side of this room..

Joe Reefer 05-26-2008 09:30 PM

HAHAHA another tank? Good start BTW

JDigital 05-26-2008 09:45 PM

Wow! Nice work. That really looks good. I really need to stop looking at all these tank journals! They give me way to many idea's that I'm not able to incorporate! haha!

Taggin along.

Lance 05-26-2008 11:33 PM

Good start! and welcome back! Even if just for a short time.

sharuq1 05-27-2008 05:07 AM

Skimmerking 05-27-2008 12:21 PM

Skimmerking 05-29-2008 09:43 PM

well had the plumber in today for a full day's work to discover that i had to rip out the floor where my fish room and laundry room was going to go. Thank god that I did that I was wondering why my kitchen sink was really slow. and this is what I found.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...8/DSC04312.jpg
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...8/DSC04314.jpg

ElGuappo 05-30-2008 12:15 AM

man i cant believe how good this thing is looking already. looks like its going to be pretty great when its done.

So what excatly was the plumber there for in the first place? the clog? or the floor drain?

Skimmerking 05-30-2008 12:37 AM

well the kitchen sink has been giving us some problems , but the laundry room didnt have sink and I wanted a sink for the fish room so once we sorted out what we needed, we went all out. then that is when we noticed thebad line coming from the sink. Im glad that we went that extra mile in the end. it paid off.

going the extra mile is almost always worth it. better to do all now thean to dig again later.

Skimmerking 05-30-2008 05:33 PM

here is the finished floor so far the pipe is just there until I moved the washer over across the other side.http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04316.jpg
this is where my sink is going to go just to the left of the pipe, and the wall that will divide the fish room and the laundry room will be 36" bi fold doors.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04317.jpg
and here is my Fish sink :BIG: man I can't believe that im getting excited over a sink.... ya ya ya I know its a mess isn't it
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04318.jpg

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04319.jpg

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04321.jpg

Lance 05-30-2008 05:50 PM

That's the most important factor of a new build: Keeping a smile on wifey's face.

michika 05-30-2008 06:07 PM

Nice progress! What is the next step for you now?

Skimmerking 05-30-2008 06:14 PM

the reno guys are going to come in I hope that they put the wall up in the fish room so I can have time to build my sump stand since I going to get my new sump this weekend. I hope to have it all plumbed so once I get back all I have to do is do the transfer over. Im going to pre order my lumenarc reflectors too. then once home I can getmy rock too I dodnt have the time to get the rock from Mike at hidden reef.

Parker 05-30-2008 06:57 PM

Slow down your making me look bad!

Looks awsome, can't wait to see it up and running.

Joe Reefer 05-30-2008 07:00 PM

Wow Mike, are you trying to have water in to before you leave again? Good job so far.

Skimmerking 05-30-2008 08:08 PM

Hey there RObb sorry if I'm making you look bad:mrgreen: you better hurry up.

Lando trust me if this plumbing and electric crap didn't come up I would have had the tank transfered by now. Now I have to wait til Sept til I get home

Skimmerking 05-30-2008 11:18 PM

Well I was at it again trying to fine tune the fish room. Since I have been gone Doug has been mixing salt water at his house using his water and his salt for me. THANKS DOUG. So I went out and got a garbage can for Water changes its just a 21 gal container but I think it will do the trick. since my sump will be about 30 gal that should work out just fine drain the sump and clean it and do a water change at the same time.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04324.jpg
And here is the water going in to the container, LOL man i have no life....
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04325.jpg
And snce I moved my washer and dyer to its new spot. I had to redo some of the pumbing for the washer and the Waste water for the RO/DI and the waste water for the A/C nice power cord for the washer machine.... I need to put a plug in there
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04323.jpg

Skimmerking 05-31-2008 02:10 AM

Werll I'm at it again, got bored was looking in the back closet and looky looky what I found Paint, I think I will paint the tank  that is the first coat need to pick some more paint up tomorrow, I may have to go into winnipeg to get my sump too so more pctures to follow .

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04327.jpg
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04326.jpg

a front shot of a empty tank.

Snappy 05-31-2008 06:37 AM

Great job, nice build thread. Keep em' coming.

Skimmerking 06-02-2008 12:05 AM

well picked up the Sump today and a few goodies,
the sump is 30x16x18 i didnt want to go with a big sump this time ,the main purpose behind the tnak this time if I do a water change i will just drain the sump and fill it and there I will have 20 -25 gal done alot more easier then tryign to take it out of the sump on the lower ground. this sump will be 18 " high off the ground and above that will be my ATS algae srubber compliments of DOug.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04330.jpg
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04329.jpg

oh ya these babies I have been wanting some of these bad boys I saw that Lando bought a pair of them and loved them so do what other reefers do .....
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04333.jpg

and the adjustable sockets too.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04334.jpg

Skimmerking 06-05-2008 01:05 AM

well i ahve a few more before I head back over to Afghanistan:sad: My wife wanted me to swap the tank over tomorrow, but I dont think I will have enough time to get it sorted out and well I love to but I dont want to rush this transfer since I will be gone a better part of 4 months. I hate to see if something happens if I'm gone. so I tried something different today I painted the tank a ocean blue and then I'm applying some lacquer paint to harde over it it will still have the blue on the inside. But the out side will be a solid black what so you guys think of it..

this is just 2 coats im going to put another 2-3 on its works great with not peeling either you can see the blue on the inside too I think it's pretty slick.http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...d/DSC04338.jpg
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...d/DSC04339.jpg

and I installed the egg crate too. its getting there
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...d/DSC04340.jpg

and oh ya i built the sump stand, after building it I notiiced that it was to tall so i had to cut off 6 " off the legs:redface:
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...d/DSC04341.jpg
There will be a wall dividing the fish room and the laundry room with 36" louver doors just off to the right of the sump that is where the Kalk reactor will be along with my shelving too.

Lance 06-05-2008 01:57 AM

Personally I prefer blue over black. My tank is blue also, though not quite as bright as yours. Anyway I think it looks great and I can't believe how quickly your build is going. Good job, man.

michika 06-05-2008 03:56 AM

I really like that blue! Sorry you won't make your goal of switching it over before you go. Its still a super sweet build though!

Delphinus 06-05-2008 04:07 AM

Yes very nice! I can't believe the leave is over already. Stay safe buddy and thanks.

ElGuappo 06-05-2008 06:57 AM

looking great. stay safe while your way.

Skimmerking 06-05-2008 09:57 PM

well the reno guy was over to start on the basement for me , got the door frame and a few other things to give it the open look. and I thought that this would excite , and it did a floor drain just for me. and I can't believe it im getting happy about a floor drain
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04343.jpg

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...L/DSC04342.jpg

its getting there

Skimmerking 07-03-2008 05:38 PM

Looking good, now you just need some sps to finish things off.

lastlight 10-11-2008 04:38 PM

Your wall color really does look sweet...the in-wall tank sure doesn't hurt either! How high do you have your t5s? I thought you can put them closer to the water for higher output?

Keep it up!
