gqlmao's CUBE! PICS!
Hey I dont post much on canreef, but I wouldnt call myself new to canreef. Anyways I was asked to post my tank on canreef. It isnt the prettiest tank and I do have quite a bit of algae but what the heck. I just spent my week finishing my canopy and my doors for the tank making it officially a fullout tank :). FYI I've never built anything before :P but as long as I dont see light leaking from the canopy sides I'm fine lol.
The tank itself is 5 months old upgraded from a 3 year old 46 bow, dimensions are 30x30x24 inch with a 20 gallon sump. the sump has no glass planes its bare and consists of a series of eggcrates which hold my macros and the lower ones are filled with feather dusters. These are my water polishers. My skimmer is a es 100 its been 3 days in the picture, it does alright I guess. The cup has to be emptied in a week? I have a ehiem canaister behind it as well along with a phosban reactor. My lighting consists of a 24 inch newwave t5 HO and a 250 watt MH. When combined I get quite a nice colour but My MH isnt on during the pictures cause I'm planning to hang my canopy and at the level its at right now, evaporation and heat will be a big issue. Its going to be a SPS tank because my little angels eat everything but SPS! I have a transforming emperor angel, and a blue face angel. BTW my tank is heavily stocked, I have 3 tangs and a sargassum and a foxface. They are all doing fine I've had most of them for over 2 years now except the trigger. Nitrates are very low and I dont think I have any traces of ammonia. Anyways screw my babbling and heres more pics, I hope you guys enjoy and if you want some more details feel free to ask or pm. UMM SORRY IT DIDNT POST PICS ILL POST them now Stanley, |

Great looking tank!
If you add after, you can imbed your photos, like this: http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/m...o/PDR_0346.jpg http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/m...PDR_0349-1.jpg http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/m...o/PDR_0350.jpg http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/m...o/PDR_0349.jpg |
thanks for the comments I'll do that now. Didn't know you could do that :).

I like the rock formation you've got going on there. When that puppy grows out it'll be sweet! Good idea with the open canopy...i don't think heat will be much of a problem that way.
Keep us updated and stop using my real name (lastlight) on a public forum man! Cheers, Brett |
:P gotcha man, no name using!. Thanks yea I tried to go for less liverock because I wanted more room for the fish and more space for sps. Hopefully the open canopy will get enough heat through.

Hey, heres the done deal, the canopy is hung and the metal halide is turned on!

That's awesome!
I was planning on a light skirt as well for my new tank and it's so hard to find pictures of anyone actually doing this. I'm still torn between this and a nice fixture. Is that the aquaconnect? |
yup thats the aqua connect, yea the only problem with this kind of set up is that is it hard to position but once thats in everything is set. I used 2x2 wood I believe, plus very light pine wood siding. The canopy weighs less then 25 pounds with both the lighting attached. Now I just gotta buy some glass for the bracing so I dont have to use any more nasty eggcrates :P.

Well I just had a huge leak on my bulkhead 3 days ago, for the last 2 days I've been trying to work with flex hoses and added a garbage can as a refugium on the side. The old sump setup was scraped and I hope this new one will last. The setup is a lot cleaner and forsure if theres a leak next time it will be a lot easier to fix. I'm sure everyone has felt that 10 gallon of water on the floor feeling and all you can do is scream and swear
