Is this an in-sump or HOB model? (pardon my ignorance)

Hey Keri, how big is your tank? I have the Deltec MCE600 and it's amazing! Depending on the size of your tank, you could try the MCE300 (I believe I saw one for sale on here a few days ago).

65g reef. I have a coralife 65 but it's finicky and just barely rated for that size of tank. (pulls a lot out tho but it's overfilled at random times on me before)
Where did you get your deltec from?
edit: ever used an aquac remora pro?

ya keri that one got sold within a day or two but i know JL carries them regularly

Thanks!! I think they are sold out of the smaller size, I'm not sure what size I would need for the 65. I don't want to underskim but I've heard way Overskimming can be bad too?

It is going to be difficult to find a decent HOB skimmer for under 350 unless you find a used one. Good Luck there your on the right place to find one. Just a quick question on "but I've heard way Overskimming can be bad too" could you elaborate on this if you have time.
Thanks
Kevin

I don't know if I can elaborate. I've just heard it was bad....maybe because it takes the stuff out of the water your coral needs? *shrug* Maybe someone else knows?

I'm willing to pay more than 350 for a skimmer too, I just hijacked the thread to see if there was anything else out there.

I think I will join Keri, Need to find a good HOB for my mom's tank.

Overskimming bad, good to know. My AquaC Urchin seems to be pulling some nasties from my 45g

fkshiu 06-01-2008 04:31 AM

phhhpt, you'd have to skim an insane amount to "overskim" IMHO.

Even if you have an awesome skimmer pulling tons of crap (yes, remember what it is) out, you and your fish are constantly resupplying the crap on a daily basis. If you're really that concerned, skim dry then you'll know that you aren't pulling any water out with the crap.

I doubt any HOB skimmer out there is powerful enough to "overskim" - their little pumps simply don't draw enough air to do so.

Ahh! Don't quote me for sure on that one, it's just what I'd heard! :) I just emailed J&l on the ETA for the deltec 300's, Drew's having an arugument with our coralife as we speak...I hate that thing.
