Thermometers

I am getting a 4 degree difference in readings between a Coralife digital thermometer (new battery) and 2 of the $4.00 floating thermometers (1 brand new). All are placed side by side in the tank.

I just wondering which one you would trust and what do you use.

The coralife is junk...the floaters are more likely right in my opinion.

Floaters for sure. I use a few floaters and my Profilux. I have a couple of digitals in the drawer....one day I guess I should toss the $50 pieces of junk. Its just hard to throw a $100 away.

I use $15 JBJ Digi-Temp thermometers and they all read the same as my AquaFX TDS meter (which has a thermometer on it too). My floaters read differently, as do the stick on ones. When I buy the JBJ ones I check all the ones on the rack, and you'll often see there is one or two reading a bit different...don't buy those ones.

What if the two that are off are the ones with the right temps?

Myka 04-30-2008 02:05 PM

 I say if there are 10 of them on the shelf and two are reading a different number, then likely the 8 that are reading the same would be right...so far it seems to have worked since they all agree with eachother right now, and all of them were bought at different times from different places. :)

I found the floating ones work better for me as well...but maybe that's just me?!

I have a Marina Aquaminder. From the sounds of it maybe I should consider it suspect?

I found as my JBJ digital thermometer got covered in coralline, it became less accurate. I prefer the glass floater as it is glass, and easy to clean off. It came to the point my jbj one was 8F off.....

Do you keep your floaters in the display or the sump?

Flash 04-30-2008 11:03 PM

I keep mine in my display!
