Bikers?

Ok so most downhill bikers on here probably already been following this, but for you guys out of the city, next time you come to Calgary, bring your bike with you!

Should make for a great season!

Myka 04-26-2008 03:11 AM

Cool! I used to really enjoy dh mtbing...but I out-rode my $3000 bike, and couldn't justify spending $6000 on a bike that could handle me!

Parker 04-26-2008 03:26 AM

You already know I ride!

Myka 04-26-2008 03:44 AM

^ Haha! We were known to go on 3 am drunken dh bike rides!!! Good times! I never smashed my bike up, but I sure spent a lot of time bottoming the shocks out, and I'm a light weight.

Well, we have no money because we spend it all on our tanks!! Hmm, if I sold my bikes, I could upgrade to a really really big tank!!

And what's this??? You mean we're not supposed to hit the trees???? ahhh, it all makes sense now.

LeeR 04-26-2008 05:01 PM

I just got back into dirt jumpin after a long 9 or 10 years.

Reefhawk1 04-27-2008 05:45 AM

I just purchased a new full suspension bike and I love it! Makes me feel 18 again

With 5 mid to high end bikes I too could upgrade to a really really big tank if I sold them and have enough left over for a small car.

I bought a Ducati Monster last year. Makes me feel like a 50 year old ;)

The bike that makes me feel youngest is my single speed fixed gear. What a blast to ride!

I don't think I would ever buy another hard tail as well. The full suspension soaks up all those nasty drops

Yeeehaaaw!!

.. I just wish there was a way I could progress into more of that sort of thing without involving broken bones. I dunno, I messed myself so bad last year at Whistler. The broken shoulder was bad enough but I'm only just now, 9 months later, getting some feeling back in my right leg (complete loss of sensation from the hit it took in the fall - at the time I was hospitalized I was so focused on the shoulder it never occured to me to ask about the leg. By the time I did realize something was up and had it looked at the doctors were like "meh - it's nerve damage, what are you going to do. Try physio, maybe one day the feeling will come back.")

It's not a fear of pain that I have, but the fear of me doing something messing myself up permanently that has me pulling back a little from the sport. Or maybe I'm just chicken. Half of me looks at the video and says "Yahhhh!" and other half says "Uhhhhh? Nooooooo! Have you considered road biking instead??"

Just so's I'm not being a complete downer on the topic, check this video out of Lazar Fade, one of the new trails at COP built by the Whistler folks. Now the the rain has stopped hopefully they can open for real soon!! This is the kind of trail I live for, bermy flowy goodness.

I can't ride like that either.. I get close to getting the nerve to hit something bigger then I think about my mortgage and who's going to pay it if I bail!

That trail at COP looks like it would be pretty fun, if I get down there one of these days I'll have to bring the bike

Parker 04-14-2009 05:53 PM

Ignoring the weather today anyone else getting excited to ride again?!?

Delphinus 04-14-2009 06:34 PM

Ohhh yes. I was getting all jealous of the motorbike thread and all the attention it was getting. Pheh! Let's see those those guys stand on one foot on the bike off to the side and then ride down a mountain like that!

I was all set to start riding to work this week but .. oh well, next week. :)

C.O.P. has disappointed me this year though. Less hours open, jacked prices way up, and no early bird special. I might spend more time at Moose Mountain instead if they want to be that way.

Parker 04-14-2009 07:22 PM

I heard a rumor that Moose Mountain is getting / got a big grant for trail improvements this year.

I rode there the year before last but didn't have to much time to explore.

Rabbit Hill did the same thing last year.. but they did put in some new trails so we'll see what this year brings..

Delphinus 04-14-2009 08:04 PM

Yes actually it's getting quite organized. I still haven't actually ridden out there though, I've hiked in the area though and seen some of the trails. Nice stuff, I really need to get out there with.. you know .. an actual bike, one day.

Parker 04-14-2009 10:39 PM

It's best to go with a group and shuttle the hill... It's a looooooong fire road climb up to the top.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to hit it up this year.

Delphinus 04-14-2009 10:49 PM

They're talking regular organized shuttles thanks to Calgary Cycle. There might be a signup at their site, check it out before you come down. Otherwise message me if I'm in town we can go.
