Very nice Brent. Tell me more about your Frogfish, PM me if you can please. They are just some of the most amusing fish!
|
I just picked the frogfish from *removed* up last weekend. Given how shallow the clam tank is I wanted something that doesn't jump and would be compatible with clams, urchins and SPS corals. I have always found frogfish interesting and figured it would be ideal for this tank since he is the only fish in it.
I've only had it a couple days now and it is already getting more grey and green to blend in better. *removed* told be to wait a couple weeks before feeding it since it had a couple chromis on Friday. It is taking food by hand so I won't need to provide it with live food. I flipped back and forth on whether to get one. I've been warned people quickly get bored of a fish that doesn't move and changes colour to camouflage in with the tank. I really like your top clam. |
Thank you.
I saw those frogfish when I was last there and REALLY debated adding one to a system in the future. They are just so awesome, regardless of their lack of movement/colour changing antics. |
My clam likes to hide in a patch of GSP.

I had to move these two croceas into my frag tank to save them from my Regal tang & Flame angel.

A not so new, and a new since april;
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...a/DSC_0916.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...a/DSC_0921.jpg I am dying to get more clams, but priorities and all. I'd love to see photos of clams anyone picked up from RC. |
RC?
|
Red Coral, they have some real beauties.
|
We do....but going fast.
|
And that is why I'm up so early, and dressed! We're heading up north shortly to make our usual rounds, RC included.
So who else has pretty clam photos to share? |
|
Man, I'm really developing a liking for gigas clams. Nice stuff!
Anyhow, no gigas for me yet, but did pick up a handful of squamosa's the last few weeks (Michika - am I catching up to you yet? I think I count 13 now ). I really like the squamosa's with blue .. found one with a little, and a couple babies - one of which has some blue potential, should it grow out. http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...tos/6clams.jpg http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...otsquamosa.jpg |
Here's my clam. I think it's a crocea.

Yes Tony, you've caught me and passed me, I only have 10 right now.
|
where does everyone place the clams?
can i put it on the bottom as long as it is fully exposed to the light? |
Quote:
tank depth? and type / wattage of the lights? |
Quote:
about 2 feet deep on sand substrate 2 x 55 watt T5 power compacts (1 watt-liter/4 watt-gallon) 10,000K/Actinic lighting Electronic ballast High polish, textured aluminium reflector Blue LED moonlights |
all clams can be kept on the sand, only crocea's actually prefer ( or were engineered to be on rock ) the rock work but you can always put a small flat rock underneath the clam on the sand. maxima's like a good deal of light and being 24" down under 1 55W 10K might not be enough.
is there nowhere you could place the calm on the rocks? there are several lower lighting clams that are nice too, are you set on a maxima? just so i'm not totally taking this thread off course, here are a few pics of some of the clam i have / had currently and over the years. sorry for the load times..... http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...36newdersa.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...nty/derasa.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9536maxima.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/P4060016.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...enty/TDnew.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...095364-med.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...Picture026.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...6P9230004a.jpg |

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...aneyedo/12.jpg Will the polyps not overgrow the clam and kill it in time? It looks like they are on the clam as well. Or do you have a way to deal with that? I really like the green one by the way. |
They truly are very beautiful everyone, I wish there was a dwarf size of clam that grew no bigger than 1-2"
Very nice Amy |
