Just arrived
Hey all, well I "jumped the gun" so to speak. Today while doing some shopping I stoped by my LFS to see what's new. The first thing I saw was a whole new line of salt that I have never seen before, but have read quite a bit about lately. Pauls' Aquarium in Surrey has just added the Crystal Sea marinemix to there line of saltwater mixes. I don't know too much about this mix other than a few things: it's been around for a long long time, that it's mostly used in labratories, and also for keeping saltwater animals alive for human consumption such as for crab and lobster suppliers. This salt mix has been available in the aquarium industry for years, maybe just not marketed in the same way as some of the more widely used mixes.
Now, I know that I mentioned in Sam's previous post that "we shouldn't jump onto a bandwagon to soon", however I had a thought. Why not give this new salt a go and see if I can notice any differences in my reef over the next 3-4 months with a small trial period. I hopefully won't see a change as it would be hard to see the reduction of metal content for example. Then again, if this water is closer to NSW then it's worth a shot in my books. Over the 5+ years I have kept a detailed monthly log on my entire setup, so I can now take notes for a few months and not only see but also record if there is any positive or negitive changes within the reef. I'm keeping my fins crossed. Who knows-maybe this a good thing, time will tell I guess. Cheers, Rich |
Sounds like a great experiment.
I am sure you will keep us informed. cheers |
That's right Rich, you're not 'jumping on the bandwagon' if you're the one driving it!
 We'll be watching with interest. |
Sure why not.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I think I too will go with the Marine Enterprise Crystal Sea mix instead of the Aquacraft Bio-Sea mix then since Marine Enterprise had nothing to do with the S-15 report. :)

And DT's uses this mix to culture their phytoplankton. |

Wendell, it's on Kingsway near Willingdon, I believe. Decent stock of dry goods, used to be the best price around

He hasn't been there in years. The store moved to Surrey. I don't have the address though. He was at the Reef Meet last month. Hey, Wendell, wasn't one of the door prizes from Paul's??!?!?!?!! |
years huh? This only confirms what my kids have been saying for a while.....
|
Lookie here what I found:
http://www.paulsaquarium.com/ I just decided to type in a URL to see what I come up with and its a (604) area code with a Surrey exchange. How cool is that? Another one to add to our sidebar? :D :D :D :D :D |
Yes Sam, he was a great supporter at the reef meeting, but have never been to his store front.
Will make it there next week. Wendell Wish I could sleep, nothing more to frag in the home tank.............off to the fishroom |
He's just off off 76th Ave and I'd guess the street is 135 or 135A in Surrey. It's in a little complex in behind Cosco. Yes he was at the last meeting and he did provide a door prize.

To be exact, Pauls Aquarium Centre's address is #108 7533 135th st.-Surrey. Troy is right, his store is directly behind Costco and Can. Tire. store # is 604 572-4649
Pauls store has been in Surrey for about 6-8 years, before that the store was on Kingsway where it was Vancouvers prime place to shop for fish and corals. Thursday nights were a riot as that was when new shipments arrived, crowds of 20-30+ would be there waiting for the "bag cutting". I wasn't reefing then but my roomie was, and I remember going with him on many visits to Pauls where there was always something different to see or buy 8) Paul's father Jack who passed away a few years ago, was the most highly respected man in Vancouvers retail aquarium Industry with over twenty five years experience- a great man who will always be missed. Jack passed on all of his knowledge to the entire family. So you could say that it's a small family buisness, that's always been there for it's customers. I have been dealing with Paul and his family for over five years now, and there store is in my top three of places to shop. Pauls does have a wide selection of freshwater, saltwater, and pond supplies. The saltwater side of things is not as large as his freshwater setups, however he is adding another large coral tank sometime soon 8), which will give him a total of two coral tanks as well as eight sw fish tanks and many cubicle invert tanks. The prices are competitive, selection is good, but most of all there customer service is excellant as they take the time to listen as well as give knowledgable friendly advice :D Two Fins Up!- in my books  |
Just to add my 2cents worth about Pauls. We've found it to be the best store for the health of the fishes. They don't have as much stock, but you never see anything dead in the tanks (dead or sick are taken away pronto - wish I could say this for all the stores). The people are great/very knowledgeable and the prices, while not the lowest are competitive. It's always on our 'tour' of LFS. Two fins up :D
