Achilles pics

So I was taking my usual 600,000 pics today without finding any I liked but what I did get was a strong feeling that it was time Doofus went on a diet.
Does anyone else think this might be unhealthy?

I'm including the pic below to show that he is the picture of health if you don't look at his beer gut

Great pic Marie. What a beautiful and healthy looking fish. :D

He was aptly named Doofus by my daughter. Here is a video I took of him last year when he was half the size

nice pics one of my top tangs and also neat video he must be dizzy after all that spinning lol

untamed 04-07-2008 06:17 AM

I think it is healthy for fish to be fat...to a point, I suppose. My Achilles does not look quite as heavy as yours, but I would guess it is close. He eats a tremendous amount, but also expends a lot of energy.

untamed 04-07-2008 06:20 AM

OK..I just watched the video and your fish is certainly weirder than mine. The really fast swimming is the same...as is the quick looping...but I've never seen mine go upsidedown!

SeaHorse_Fanatic 04-07-2008 08:18 AM

You should spend hours watching that fish live like TomR, Irene & I have done. It's a hoot and a half. Real nutty.

I like my fish fat:biggrin:

Anthony

Fatty, Fatty 2 x 4
Couldn't get through the coral corridor

untamed 05-11-2008 05:58 AM

Maybe some extra weight will slow him down a bit....

Delphinus 05-11-2008 06:36 AM

Haha, that's awesome.. Looks like a happy fish, good work. :)

wickedfrags 05-11-2008 11:03 AM

A beautiful fish, one of my favorites. What size is your achilles? About 7" of so - always tough to sell in the pictures.

marie 05-11-2008 03:17 PM

He's probably around 7"-8" .

Hard to believe he started as a tiny 2 1/2- 3", he didn't look completely oversized when he started out in a 20g quarantine tank

christyf5 05-12-2008 10:45 PM

Good lord Marie, that is one fat fish. So awesome to see them like that

marie 06-25-2008 12:57 AM

Hi, my name is doofus and I have an eating disorder :eating:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...l/june1308.jpg

This is also the only top down photo that I liked but I don't think I want people voting him the fattest fish ever so I didn't enter it into the photo contest

All kidding aside, all my fish are going to be fed less even if my regal angel nibbles on corals

Chaloupa 06-25-2008 01:33 AM

OH MY Marie...he does have an issue doesn't he????? HOLY!

michika 06-25-2008 04:23 AM

There are no words beyond wow for that!

Chowder 06-25-2008 05:11 AM

Geeze Marie have you been slipping the fish some roids in there food.
Chris

Der_Iron_Chef 06-25-2008 05:47 AM

People always talk about how fat their fish are, and I have often gazed at mine, wondering if they're fat enough. Now that I've seen this, I'd say mine are.....fit. :p

What a beautiful fish you have there, Marie. I really love him....and can sympathize with the fellow, in that he obviously loves to eat ;)

Delphinus 06-25-2008 06:15 AM

That's the closest I've ever seen a tang in a tank look like a tang in the wild. The ones I saw in Hawaii a couple years ago (Achilles too) were absolutely wide loads.

Spectacular! :)

spoot 06-25-2008 08:42 AM

Wow, he is a porker! But then again, I must agree with what Delphinus said, if you watch film and documentaries and reefs/reef fish, a lot of them in the wild are pretty chunky.

michika 06-25-2008 03:20 PM

I have to know, how did he get so plump? What do you feed?

christyf5 06-25-2008 03:33 PM

Simply awesome

And extra large fries

michika 06-25-2008 05:15 PM

Extra large drink too? Although maybe a diet one.

marie 06-25-2008 08:46 PM

I was feeding mysis shrimp and a full sheet of nori in the morning then in the afternoon frozen angel food or flake food of some kind and another full sheet of nori. (I was feeding so much to keep the angel from eating corals...it didn't work).
Now, I've cut out the afternoon feed and only feed 3 sheets of nori every 2 days
