Coralife Super skimmer 220?
Hey, I'm looking a for a relatively cheap skimmer for my tank, its around 100 gallons total water and has a medium bioload. I was looking into the coralife 220 and found it very reasonable for pricing. I was wondering to hear some feed back from fellow canreefers of course :)! How does it fair compared to the more expensive brands like Euroreef, deltecs? Suggestions on other skimmers would be nice too, thanks.
It fairs like a cheap piece of crap. They are really good at flooding floors too. Seriously, fork out the money for a EuroReef, you'll thank me later. :D Find a used one if needed.
Really? where could i get my hands on euroreefs besieds buying them online? Also how wide are they? I'm very limited in space as my sump is only 20 gallons.
I have a coralife 220 on a 75g with a 33g sump...works fine for me. Sorry about your floors Myka.

Hey fencer, how much skimmate does the skimmer produce? and can anyone tell me where to get a euroreef in Calgary if there is by any chance?
Gold's has one $ 319. At least they did last weekend
what size was that? thanks

I second the euroreef. They're the only good skimmer without spending like a grand for a 200 gallonish tank. The bubbleking would be the king though ;).
It seems everyone loves their euro reefs, I may have to drop by golds to see if they have a decent sized one in stock thanks!
I got what I can afford...anyways there are much better skimmers out there. To answer your question. I tend to set my skimmer to produce dry skim. So there isn't a lot of volume. I find because I use ozone I don't get a lot of skim anyways.
i have the 220 on one of my tanks as well.
does ok but like most skimmers, have to keep it clean for it to work well. as far as I am concerned, does a good job for the money. Neal |
thank you guys for the fast responses, I'll look into it and right now im considering either the 220 or the RS 135. This is canreef for ya!
if you can afford the euro, go for that for sure.
I found a super skimmer 120 used it cost 40 bucks!
From an American on reefcentral it cost 30 to ship.. I dont hava a full bioload yet but it has been making thick dark simmate and my nutrients are zero no flooding b/c It has anoverlofw drain at the top of the collection cup If you can afford the better skimmer do it but if the new project is breaking the bank you can go for a long time with a super skimmer untill you start filling your tank with SPS. |
I just replaced my crappy thing with a RS 100, wow I can tell you that that thing is definitely worth it! Too bad there were no 135s in calgary, I tried almost every store.
yeah I had an RS135 on my 120g way back when and it skimmed like mad. They work best if your sump has a skimmer baffle that keeps the water level constant for the skimmer or with an auto top off. You'll skim about 3x as much than if the water level fluctuates from evaporation.
Which places did you check for the RS135? |
Umm i checked out, Elites, Wais, Oceans and Golds of course, but no one had it, the next thing they had was the 180 which was wayyy too big for my little sump, yea the skimmer is pulling some nasty green tea water out right now. I believe its still in the breaking in stage, it will eventually get better as time progresses... atleast thats what I hope :).
Stanley, |
i was gonna get the css 220 but the last thing i need is a coming back to soaking carpet, anyways the css220 is about $200 and the euro-reef rs-80 is $240, so might as well dish in for the good one, i'm getting my euro-reef in a couple weeks can't wait:D
