killer aptasia
I have a couple of aptasia growing in my frag tank and wasn't too concerned about them although I did add a couple of peppermint shrimp earlier this week. Anyway I was tinkering in my frag tank and noticed one of my new blue eyed cardinals stuck in an aptasia face first and being made a meal of. Two things: 1) I didn't realize that aptasia were that aggressive and 2) cardinals were that stupid. I pulled it out and fed it to my GBTA who is more deserving of a nice meal.
Here's some pictures. Fish being made a meal of http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...iaeatsfish.jpg fish dead after the aptasia incident http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...adcardinal.jpg |

damn! that's nasty!
don't you just hate those things... . |
Holy crap. That must be one stupid fish.. I can see being eaten by a carpet of a ritteri but aptasia?
|
WOW. i just got rid of 2 aptaisia that big yesterday. glad i did now. ones already coming back thou.
|
that's terrible - i'm just wondering, did the aptasia actually kill the fish, or was the fish already dead and the aptasia was feeding on it as it floated by?? Did you have any problems with an aptasia outbreak because i started off with 1 and they started to spread quite rapidly and I tried different methods of getting rid of them. Either way, i didn't realize that an aptasia could kill a fish - quite interesting.....
