live adult brine shrimps for sale in Vancouver BC

Because of my seahorse breeding, I have to bring in live adult brine shrimps to Canada. If anyone of you needs live adult bs, please let me know. $3 per bag (1300+ shrimps). BC lower mainland only please since shipping to other locations does not worth it.

Just curious, How would one keep them alive in order to feed a tank over time

J

Get a bucket. insert airstone into bucket. put any kind of light over it. add some kind of supplement.

If by "over time" you mean a short period like a few days, then you can use pretty much anything like phytoplankton, selcon, vita-chem, etc. If you mean over time as in starting your own culture, then phytoplankton.

brine shrimp are best fed newly born (as nauplii) unless they are supplemented with something.

Myka 03-22-2008 01:32 AM

They are easy to take care of. I forgot about a brine shrimp pop bottle I had going. The airstone wasn't going anymore, and I didn't feed it. It was left alone for about 8 weeks, and today I went to clean it out and there are a bunch of adult brine shrimp in there, and a whole bunch of babies and everything in between. They were quite fine on their own!

danlee78 03-24-2008 07:03 AM

how big are these "adults" hmm, i might be interested in a bag...

feed them to my mantis, lol

seahorsecanada 03-24-2008 08:19 AM

Hi danlee, they are fully grown adults that are able to mate and carry eggs.

danlee78 03-24-2008 06:51 PM

how big are they tho? maybe half a size of a toothpick? viewable to the eye?

where would i be able to obtain these?

You can get these from Seahorsecanada for $3 per bag

.

seahorsecanada 03-24-2008 08:29 PM

Hi danlee, they are about 0.5 cm long.

dsaundry 03-24-2008 08:38 PM

Would like some but I wont be making any trips into Vancouver for a while.
Unless a fellow member from the valley is heading in....

justinl 03-24-2008 08:45 PM

danlee, unless your mantis is *small* (as in less than an inch), artemia wont help you. hermits and snails are the best live smasher mantis food. seahorsecanada, I dont mean to block the sale, I just think it would be in the best interest to let others (who can make proper use of it) have it.

seahorsecanada 03-24-2008 08:47 PM

No problems, justin.

Man I feel like a brand newb again asking this but would adding a population of live brine shrimp aid in a reef aquarium down the line?
I'm just in the final cycling stage of my 72 and was wondering if it would be beneficial to do this or if it would be pointless.
I would enjoy watching the shrimp if they could/would establish a population and maintain it or even if they could get a head start on building a natural food supply before I start to add other livestock but I'm very unfamiliar with live foods in general and their application to a natural reef.
thanks...

Hmm my seahorses eat frozen but they would like a nice live treat I bet!

Seahorsecanada, where abouts in Vancouver are you? I work in burnaby & could maybe pick some up for Dsaundry here :)

.

seahorsecanada 03-25-2008 06:37 AM

Hi Whatigot, for your situation, I recommend you to get some amphipods or copepods if you would like to establish a population and maintain it as a natural food supply for a long term.

Hi VFX, I live in North Delta. If you work in Burnaby, I can probably meet you at King Ed sometime.

Whatigot 03-25-2008 01:41 PM

okay.
I suppose it's best to work on the basics first.
thanks all the same.

i'm just looking for something "alive" that my mantis would eat. i fed him a 3cm peppermint shrimp the other day and he tore it to shreds. Is there any freshwater shrimp that can survive an acclimation and be bait for my mantis? or any place i can buy cheap marine shrimp?

seahorsecanada 03-25-2008 06:52 PM

Hi danlee, I have some marine white shrimps approximately 2cm for my seahorse's treat. If you need, I will sell you for $1.5 each.

danlee78 03-25-2008 09:47 PM

cool, can i get 10 of them? how would i meet you?

danlee78 03-25-2008 09:49 PM

Also, seahorse, do you know where i can buy these in bulk?

seahorsecanada 03-25-2008 10:03 PM

hi danlee, I live in north delta near kryspy kreme. where are you located?
