That is insane!! What a rush eh? Ever use anything live for feeding?

Phanman 03-09-2008 04:28 AM

crazy... ive seen those fish in person but thats absolutely nuts during feeding time. You almost need a rain suit from all that splashing, lol.

Mikee 03-09-2008 04:54 AM

Wow those fish are huge! thanks for the vid

Keri 03-09-2008 05:00 AM

Delphinus 03-09-2008 05:21 AM

Who needs a wavemaker?

banditpowdercoat 03-09-2008 06:24 AM

Holly CRAP. Excuse my ignorance., but what fish is that?

i have crabs 03-09-2008 06:31 AM

the big monster in thier is a speckeled grouper and thier is also a blackspotted grouper a panther grouper and a emperor snapper.
i usally feed them smelt and shrimp every 2-3 days and i do usally get soaked
i think my favorite part is wiping the glass and lids constantly

Delphinus 03-09-2008 07:33 AM

I'm guessing he also splashed water on your keyboard which explains why the shift key doesn't work? :p

tang daddy 03-09-2008 07:50 AM

Hey It's nice to see some big fish active like that!!

The wakes that they cause would be great for my sps.

What is the total volume of your set up and how much, how often are you changing water thanks?

Ouch, Im A Product Of Half A Public Education So Im Just Glad I Can Read, Who Cares About Spelling And Grammer

As far as the tank goes its 300g with a 130g sump its been set up since november and ive been doing between 1&2 waterchanges a month of about 60-120g each.im having an issue with nitrates and cyano since buddie moved in but im adding 6lbs of seachem nitrate removal media and about 150lbs of base and liverock soon so hopefully that cuts down the nitrates.
im also using tapwater in this tank so when i get the waterlines finished ill have ro/di water in this tank also so that should help with algae and cyano.

I wish I could read!

Very nice! That is and awesome video!

Delphinus 03-10-2008 06:39 PM

I'm curious how much nitrate those big fish generate, what are your levels?

Have you thought at all about a denitrator, either a coil type or a sulfur reactor maybe? I bet you could get some good mileage out of one..

i have crabs 03-10-2008 11:50 PM

Im having trouble keeping nitrate down its usally around the 50-100 range. if things dont improve soon im gonna buy one of these

The sulfur reactors are exactly the same as a calcium reactor without the CO2 input, if you're into DIY you could probably build yourself one for a lot less, or find a used calcium reactor and then use sulfur media. I tried a sulfur reactor for about a year, I found the trickiest part is the flowrate. If I were to do it over again, I'd suggest using a peristaltic feed pump and if you really want to go top shelf, put the feed pump on an ORP controller. When dialed in right they work pretty awesome. Just food for thought.

Or you could try a coil denitrator ... usually around $20 in parts so a cheap option to look into and not a lot wagered if it doesn't work out.

Or heck, dose with sugar (or sugar and vodka). I tried sugar dosing a few months ago, it really does bring the nitrates down pretty quick. Only thing is they come back up when you stop.
