Cinder Blocks?

what is the best place to get 2x4? what is the best price?

Zylumn 02-23-2008 09:57 PM

Call around and then go to your closest HomeDepot and they will beat the price by 10%.
I have done that a few times just make sure you have the # and name of the cheapest place so they can call and confirm.

I like Home Depot as well....Not because they are the cheapest, but because they have all the wood indoors where it is warm and dry. You can fish through the pile to find the straightest pieces.

SeaSerpant 02-23-2008 10:41 PM

how much do they want for it right now? (for a 8' piece)

banditpowdercoat 02-23-2008 11:33 PM

How many pieces you need? if its only 10 pcs or so, might be fruitless wasting time shopping around as they usually only vary a couple cents.

Few cent eitherway but $2.00 a board is a good for estimating.

SeaSerpant 02-24-2008 12:27 AM

i need 40' of wood.

adidas 02-24-2008 02:07 AM

Can get 2x4's as low as $1.09 at totem...

SeaSerpant 02-24-2008 07:04 PM

really i'll look into that. does anyone know where to get cinder blocks and how much they are?

Pan 02-24-2008 07:45 PM

You can get cinder blocks in any home improvement store...rona, home depot, totem...i've seen the price range from 99 cents a per block to 5 bucks a block.

SeaSerpant 02-24-2008 08:10 PM

k then i'll look into that then.

SeaSerpant 02-24-2008 08:16 PM

any other ideas. Where is the cheapest place for them?

Pan 02-24-2008 08:46 PM

A building construction site :) Sometimes the guys will just let you have them. Otherwise i would say home depot simply because of their purchasing power.

SeaSerpant 02-24-2008 09:21 PM

purchasing power? maybe my uncle can supply me some because he is in construction.

Pan 02-24-2008 09:26 PM

Homedepot is a big chain, they buy a lot = good purchasing power = cheaper goods.

SeaSerpant 02-24-2008 09:51 PM

ok then. so thats the cheapest place to buy cinder blocks?

Kryten 02-25-2008 06:34 PM

Sending pm on cinder blocks...

SeaSerpant 02-26-2008 12:15 AM

thanks

EmilyB 02-26-2008 02:46 AM

Well if you had someone coming to Calgary who would take them back for you, I have some you could have.

mark 02-26-2008 02:50 AM

okay, I'll ask, what are the blocks for?

EmilyB 02-26-2008 05:40 AM

I'm guessing to build a stand with the 2 x 4's.

muck 02-26-2008 02:41 PM

I hate to be the one to say it but if you need to save the $4 on building materials for your stand you might be in the wrong hobby.

Kryten 02-26-2008 06:26 PM

Maybe it's not the money so much as that you can put up some cinder blocks with a piece of plywood a lot easier than building a stand with 2x4's...

SeaSerpant 02-27-2008 12:21 AM

it is and you save some money. i think this stand will be for my 70g FW tank. Not my SW tank (that will be set up in a year or so maybe sooner whence i get a job)
