sulfer reactors
Anyone using one? My nitrates vary from 15 -20ppm due to the critter load. I'm thinking of setting up a simple reactor & giving it a go.
Dammit I spelled "sulfur" wrong !@#$%! D'oh! |
never used one but a possibilty one day..so far everything I have read states it is a good choice for tanks with heavy bio load.
as for spelling sulphur wrong, it's hard to concentrate looking at Jessica Alba's backside...Darn it all |
Re: Sulphur reactor
Hi, I'm new to canreef. I,ve been using a 'midwest' sulphur denitrator for more than 1.5 years. My nitrate level had reduced from >100ppm to 20ppm and that it never reach 10ppm or less than that. To me, for a fowlr tank with heavy bio-loads, I am satisfied with the result.

remember threads here before, here's one, could try a search for others

I would also check out Delphinus prior posts, he used a sulphur reactor for a while too:biggrin:
|
THANKS EVERYONE! I'll keep everyone updated once I get it up & running.

Any thoughts on ammount of sulfur will work for a system of this size? I'm trying to decide on single or dual chamber reactor.
|
i was gonna fill up 2 extra phosban reactors and give that a try but havnt really looked into what media to buy for it. if that dosnt work good enough i might buy a big biodenitrator since 100g waterchanges hurt the fish budget
|
That was my thought, but on a system this small I was wondering if a 50/50 in a single reactor would work. I think I'll start this way, give it three months & go from there.

im doing a sulphur reactor now my nitrates were 40 PPM it went online this morning will test tomorrow and keep you guys informed , however just remember that it wil drop your ALK down around 2.6 Meg/L so you need to watch that while its cycling

I am also concerned about my nitrates and was just looking into a sulpher reactor, when I discovered some sulpher media you can put into your calcium reactor. http://www.jlaquatics.com/phpstore/s...ategory_ID=152
Have you ever heard of this? |

This seams weird as you would think it would take forever to turn a 400 gallon system 1 drop a second. Not to mention the little bit of recurculation a person will get. |
I have been running one for ~2 years now and can tell you that it works fantastic, but admittedly a bit frustrating to start. My Nitrates remain at 0. The only bad thing is rigging it out for a cleaning every 6 months....oh that putrid sulfur smell. :p
