Regal Tang vs. Yellow Tang

Even though I would get arrested by the tang police, what would be better for a 46 gallon bow front tank? A Yellow Tang or a Regal Tang.

Der_Iron_Chef 02-05-2008 02:25 AM

Yellow Tang, hands down.

chevyjaxon 02-05-2008 02:28 AM

yeah gotta agree yellow is better why do you ask?

Neither

saltwaterboy321 02-05-2008 03:22 AM

Tangs are my favourite and I would love to have one.

saltwaterboy321 02-05-2008 03:23 AM

Why do you think a yellow tang is better?

saltwaterboy321 02-05-2008 03:28 AM

Are there any tangs you think would be suitable?

Der_Iron_Chef 02-05-2008 03:45 AM

Well, I don't think either tang is suited for a 46G bowfront. But if you were going to disregard the advice given....definitely don't put a Regal Tang in a tank that size. A yellow would do *better*.

I don't think any tangs are really suitable, to be honest.

fmelindy 02-05-2008 04:48 AM

maybe a tomini would be even better

A small Yellow Tang would be OK as long as you can commit to upgrading your tank size when the fish grows. Happiest fish in my tank. Spends the whole day cleaning rocks.

Dito. Tangs need 90g or more!!!!!!!!!!

The posters who replied are all correct.
Your tank is too small for tangs.
Wait until you decide to set up a large tank and add tangs at that time.
Thank you

Drock169 02-08-2008 05:03 AM

I hate to be part of the tang, but yeah you should have at 5 feet of swimming space for most tangs

Redrover 02-08-2008 05:18 AM

Tangs are swimmers...tank size 120 and up:onfire:

richtg 02-18-2008 05:12 PM

I agree. I feel guilty sometimes for having one 4" tang in a 90g, even with big open swimming lanes...

I would vote 120 & up for any tang. It's the hard, sad truth...

Skimmin 02-18-2008 05:55 PM

I have a 120 (24x24x48) with extenal overflows so it's a full 2ft x 2ft x 4ft. I owned a tang in my last tank which was a 4ft 75gal. In my opinion a tang needs more than 4ft to be comfortable. I won't have another tank until I upgrade to my next tank which is a 6ft 230gal. In smaller tanks fish such as tangs seem to swim laps. They don't act naturally when they're 'crammed' into the environment they're given, especially when they have to share that space with other fish.

SeaShell 02-18-2008 07:43 PM

Yeah. I have a Yellow Tang in a 140 gallon, 4 1/2' long X 2' X 2' deep and he is not as happy as he should be..... He gets kinda spastic once in a while.

any small rabbitfish might perk your fancy ?
