Christy's 90gal Tank - 2008

Thought I'd post up some new photos as I haven't done so in awhile. I noticed that I'd started a thread about this time last year as well and thought it would be neat to compare last year with this year.

Alright, one more photo of the rare, elusive purple Regal tang  It would be pretty dang cool if he actually was that color.

Thats some nice stuff you got there Christy. Tank looks nice after all those problems you had in the Spring/Summer.

SeaHorse_Fanatic 01-17-2008 09:14 PM

Good looking tank, especially considering how much time you are away from it all the time.

I would end up reverting to mostly softies with a few lps if I had to work in one city & have my tank setup in another, a ferry ride away.

PoonTang 01-18-2008 01:19 AM

Very nice. i think i will have to sneak over with my clippers one night.

michika 01-18-2008 02:49 AM

Lots of nice stuff to be had in your tank. The wickedfrags piece is really cute, and the colors are lovely. Thank you for the picture of the elusive purple regal tang!

Doug 01-18-2008 12:15 PM

A naso tang will make short work of that "wafer algae" if you're looking to be rid of it.

christyf5 04-11-2008 05:51 AM

Thanks for all the compliments guys

I'm not so sure if being here has really helped the tank. I just haven't done anything stupid lately. Don't worry, I'm sure its coming...

As for the wafer algae control. I've been thinking of adding a naso. I don't really know much about their personalities/disposition with other tangs. I'll have to start my research. The wafer algae isn't totally bad, I've been removing a good portion of it manually. Some of it has really conformed to the rock though which makes it difficult. When it starts to encroach on the corals is when I'll really have to lay the smack down

Naso tangs have a lot of personality and are really more like a pet and not just another fish. I just replaced mine that got caught in my overflow and died so my new blonde is still a bit shy. IME they tend to get along with the other fish very well and mine would come eat out of my hand. It was tame enough that I could grab it and pull it right out of the water. I had to move it out of the way sometimes when I was working in the tank because it liked to hang out with me but would get in the way sometimes. I highly recommend a naso. They aren't the most beautiful fish to look at but they have a personality you'll fall in love with.

christyf5 04-11-2008 06:07 AM

Awesome! Thanks for the info

tang daddy 04-11-2008 07:48 AM

wow looks good!
I really like the piece to the left of the urchin what is it a tri colour gorgeous.
I find the algar wafer stuff to be a pain aswell but fairly easy to rid pulls off in one piece.

christyf5 07-06-2008 04:58 AM

Thought I'd post up a more recent photo of the tank. Discovered I had montipora eating nudibranchs in my tank (yay another one to add to the list ) so off I set in search of a treatment. Discovered my wrasse loves to eat them when he can reach them (he's a lardo and hardly fits anywhere). However a couple of caps were really too far gone and quite frankly they were taking up prized real estate that my new Coral Master frags needed

Anyhoo I took the plunge and my tank went from this:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...une282008b.jpg

to this:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../july52008.jpg

I did end up treating the caps with potassium permanganate and put a couple smaller pieces back in the tank. I'll be watching them closely. If you can believe that piece in front by the scopas tang is my YELLOW cap. Crazy eh? I also fragged my A. tenuis which was looking like arse and kept the better looking live parts. It was just a home for caulerpa mostly anyways (which is yet another story).

edit: the tank looks brighter cuz I taped the blue plastic on the back properly, it was falling off. Heh I just figured that out, makes the tank much brighter

How come your tunze streams aren't all covered in corraline algae, like mine.

These were soaked in vinegar 6 weeks ago

Christy your tank is looking good.

Chaloupa 07-06-2008 07:14 AM

WOW Christy! I think it looks really really good! In this case a bad thing led to a very good thing! AND look at ALLLLLL that real estate to put frags in!

Mikee 07-06-2008 09:20 AM

Your tank looks great! I need some more frags from the coral master ;). But am waiting for my calc reactor to arrive first blah!

Lance 07-06-2008 05:01 PM

Good lord Marie, you are the master at growing coralline. http://img308.imageshack.us/img308/9...down8yi1ut.gifI'm lucky if I get a sprinkling of purple dots along the back glass of the tank.
