I'm setting up a Red Sea Max. I added a sump in the stand, a phosphate reactor & protein skimmer behind the tank, a shallow tanks beside it with a Viper 70 which will be for clams and invertebrates. I have also plumbed in a Nanocude 6 as a speciman tank. I just finished leak testing everything and am now slowly filling it with R.O. water.

Here's some pictures:

I'll post more as the tank progresses. Should have rock in place in about a week.

That is definitely a fun looking personal space there Brent. Look forward to seeing how you finish everything up.

Very sweet! I cannot wait to see it running :)

Very creative series of mods, makes for a pretty cool system but you might want to think about having that 6g right over your monitor.

If I get a lot of glare from the Nanocube I can move the monitor a couple feet to the right or onto the "L" of the desk.

I'm more concerned with the 20X20 splashing the monitor than water coming from the Nanocube. The monitor is a small LCD so is easy to move around. I can get it completely off the desk when doing maintenance on the tanks.

Salt creep could be a problem with the monitor and tanks so close together. Might corrode out the monitor with the salt air.

The computer and the tanks are on separate GFI protected circuits. and the computer itself is nowhere near the tanks.

I now have the system full of water, all the water tests completed and the hoods in place. It's ready for the live rock.

Here's pictures from the back showing how the mods look with the hood in place

I didn't find one locally. I couldn't find a CPR 90 overflow in town so I ordered the "Deluxe" from J&L which came packaged with the lid and the Aqualifter.

Cool little setup, my bother inlaw and I were talking about a little setup like that. With the red sea max, sump and refugium. Great idea, how big is the sump?
Can't wait to see the system up and running. Send more pictures please.

The inside of the RSM cabinet is 22WX18DX24H. I had Golds build the largest sump that would fit and give me enough room to get pumps in and out for maintenance 21WX17DX18H.

I decided to put the protein skimmer external so I could fit a larger skimmer (my skimmer is over 24 inches tall so wouldn't fit inside) and maximize the size of the sump.

Originally I was planning the RSM, sump and shallow refugium but found a used Nanocube 6 so decided to add on the speciman tank while I was doing all the plumbing. Easier to add it in now than to modify the system once it is up and running.

Beautiful. I've been thinking of modifying My Red Sea Max to make up for some of it's inadequacies, you've done a great looking job.

I had a problem of snails going over the top of my overflow into the box. I was concerned they would plug the outlet of the overflow so I added a guard today.

Stopped at Home Depot and bought a section of Gutter Guard for $5. Looks like it should work:

What kind of star fish do you have for you CUC?

Brent F 01-29-2008 02:15 AM

I have two brittle stars - A Pink Brittle Star which looks like a bristle worm and a Serpent Brittle Star which is brown with black stripes.

Brittle stars are reef safe but many sea stars are not.

SeaSerpant 01-29-2008 02:25 AM

So which kind is the Seastar at the bottom of the pictures of the CUC?

Brent F 01-29-2008 02:48 AM

I edited the post and labeled the pictures of the CUC. Hopefully that helps. The bottom picture is the Serpent Brittle Star

crazy colors! the leather looks good ;)

Brent F 02-15-2008 06:47 PM

The leather got over the move from your place quickly. It was small and blue the first night from the stress of being cut off and handled. This picture was about 24 hours after I got it from you. Back to its pink colour and polyps extended.

Thanks again.
