cop wrote me a ticket, tank upgrades now on hold lol

I got a "failure to obey traffic sign" ticket today. $175. My light upgrade is going to be put on the backburner unfortunately till I pay the ticket lol. At least I have till january 2nd to pay it. I turned left off of 10th street in kensington to get to the SAIT/Jubiliee/ACAD parking lot. Not supposed to turn left there. Silly me :).

fishoholic 11-28-2007 09:26 PM

That sucks, didn't you try telling the cop that you had better plans for your money!

kwirky 11-28-2007 09:32 PM

lol i should have asked "do you have a student discount?" lol

michika 11-28-2007 09:32 PM

Are you going to try and fight it? As in show up and see if the cop shows?

if you wait till around 4 days before the ticket is due, then dispute it, the cop wont remember shite, and most likey wont show

Man, cops are such a55****s sometimes.

I got this one for "excessive noise" on Shag because I had a hole in my muffler (was dad's van, I drove it on an off-day). The guy looks at me and says, "Where's your muffler?" with his incriminating cop-talk.

Ticket cost $120 but I had my dad fix it right away. The Justice of the Peace withdrew the ticket since I took initiative, presumably because he thought it was ridiculous as well.

Anyway, I think if you can convince the JP that it was an unintentional violation, you can probably get off it completely too. Furthermore, let him know that you're a student because $175 is silly. I think your strongest weapon is sincerity because these guys can make you pay the full amount as easy as they can withdraw it.

I'm sure all the cops on the board will appreciate your opinion of them.

Any reasonable person knows that I'm not talking about all cops at any given time.

Yeah? Why be so literal? It's not as if I said "yeah, cops are pigs and they don't do anything."

Not true, most cops take notes and are considered truth, also the cop doesnt have to show up, just supply notes, but you do have a better chance if he doesnt show.

Aquattro 11-29-2007 03:11 AM

Any idea what kind of OT these guys get for court days? :) They almost always show up! Especially on a day off.

SeaShell 11-29-2007 03:23 AM

I believe the general rule of thumb is that the fine will likely be reduced if you show up for your first appearance instead of paying it right away now.

Of course everyone makes mistakes, but if it wasn't a mistake... I say if you do the crime you pay the fine!

Phanman 11-29-2007 04:03 PM

if you just want a reduction just go see the JP. Ive done it at least 20 times now.... /sigh

I challenged a speed ticket about a month ago. Cop was there but they still threw out.

Should go anyways, good entertainment.

BC564 11-29-2007 05:09 PM

It is very good entertainment....but the lost wages for the day will pay for the ticket. I went to fight a speeding ticket once and sat there all day and didnt get my turn....asked me to come back tomorrow....I just paid it on the way out...

I cant believe how many people were in there for fines for urinating in a public place.....and it has a hefty fine to it.

BC564 11-29-2007 05:10 PM

It was also very scary to know how many people are driving without insurance and/or registration.....and I was just there for one day....yikes

One of the ones I liked that you can drive on the Whitemud (freeway within Edmonton city) doing 160km/hr (80K limit) and not loose you licence, just pay a find. Was big though something like $1500 and guy had a lawyer but still kept his license.

Phanman 11-29-2007 05:22 PM

he must have been a "professional driver", lol.

michika 11-29-2007 06:46 PM

So what are you going to do?

fishoholic 11-29-2007 07:12 PM

I once had a cop pull me over and say (and I quote) "Did you notice that when you turned right at the last light you WOBBLED when you turned" I never got a ticket but it took every ounce of will power not to say: Is that a technical term officer?

Not really sure how one could wobble when they turn a corner anyways, but who knows!?

I've also found that if you are speeding it's best to be honest with the officer, honesty seems to go a long way with cpos. I guess some are tired of hearing BS stories/excuses.

Thats rediculus, since when is wobbling a fineable offence. Sorry sir i swear im just holding the wobble for my friend.

spoot 11-30-2007 06:00 AM

I'd say challenge the ticket. I was in court with a friend last time because he was disputing a ticket he got for running a red light. While we waited, we saw this guy get away with driving without a liscence in an uninsured vehicle, just because the officer didn't show up.

That's what I thought!
