Science or Art
I was reading a thread about testing and was just curious on what percent of your reefing success is Science and what is Art
Im thinking 60% Science and 40% Art. |
I'm thinking more art than science, the arts often being black :)
|
For me I think its 100% Fluke.
|
90 science 10 art and another 110% is having a job!
|
I'm with jkhchris on this, for me it's definitely 100% fluke
|
Yep all fluke.
|
Fluke is such an ugly word in our hobby ..... :p

Wendell that is a tough question because I think a lot depends on what one interprets as success and what you kind of reef you keep, some require more science than others. That said I do at least sort of agree with the 60/40 ratio. It starts with science and testing but over time you get a feel for it and can often tell when some elements need topping up just by looking. So yeah I think it starts with science and slowly becomes an art.

I don't have an artistic bone in my body. 100% science. I'm not sure if I've had success yet, however.

There's a lot of science but I think almost everyone on the forums has some personal feelings towards their reefkeeping. I think that lots of reefkeepers are "artists" and don't even know it. This is coming from a "bonafide" artist, myself ;)

I would question any success I have had. My aquascaping has been more of avalanche control than either Art or Science.

well I failed art class so must have been the science.

60:40 to 50:50 sounds about right.
I'm scientifically trained but love art. I think it has a lot to do with loving this addiction & spending too much time reading about fish & corals, surfing the net about it, talking to other reefers about it, and watching/playing in the tanks every day. |
