Mounting coralife mini fixture
Hey guys,
I just ordered a coralife mini fixture (2x9w) for my nano tank, and as you probably know it does not come with any legs or mount it with. I was told most people just use a glass top on their tank and lay the fixture on top. Would it be safe to still do this with thick acrylic plastic, or will it melt, warp, leech toxins from the plastic, etc? |
I use one at work and I have eggcrate ontop of the tank and the light sits right on top of it. It's been this way for over a year with no problems.
Can you buy a big chunk of eggcrate at Home Depot?
That is where I have got it in the past, its not too expensive, like 10 bucks for it if I remember right.
Should I do things differently with a rim-less tank, or just lay the egg crate right on top of the tank with extra sticking out the sides since it cant sit on a rim.
I have mine on a rimmed tank at work. I tried using eggcrate on my rimless tank at home and it didn't work so well with nothing to support the egg crate on.
Ok, so what do I do then?

I had SuperFudge build legs for my refugium..Just an idea |
Ok so back to my original question then. Can I just lay the light on top of a piece of thick, clear acrylic?
The only problem you'll get a lot of salt creep..will effect lighting
Its actually for a freshwater tank, I just posted here because I know many others have used coralife mini's on their nanos.
Bump, going to use this fixture on my 5g nano now. Any idea's of how I can mount this on a rimless tank?
BUMP.. Any ideas? Anyone able to build me some mounting legs/stand like SuperFudge did?
