buyer seller ratings

We need this on this website.I could name a half a dozen people that i would never deal with again. It just means the cyclw will continue.

Aquattro 11-16-2007 11:12 PM

We've discussed it before and decided against it.

Skimmerking 11-16-2007 11:29 PM

It would be good to have it, I have bought lots of stuff from people here they have been great and awesome to deal with however, I think it would benefit for all of us to have it Brad IMHO. Might work out in the long run ,but I know that lots of people here are pretty honest ,but what Blaster have stated that there are some people out there he has had problems with, that I never new until now.

Moogled 11-16-2007 11:39 PM

Make a private list and then suggest anyone that wants it to PM you.

There are alot of people with different opinions on who is a good seller so it should be dealt with privately instead of bringing it out into the public where it turns into a gong show.

SeaHorse_Fanatic 11-16-2007 11:45 PM

We've always had a buyer/seller ratings forum on BCAquaria & it has it's pros & cons.

In general, it works well but the limitation we find is that people usually only post good transactions & don't mention bad ones (because they don't want to offend or something).

Since it's been decided not to have one for Canreef, then doing it privately seems the only viable option.

If the seller is ripping others board members off could a PM go to the mods to get the member banned from posting again?

No, unfortunately we aren't the sales police. There are always 2 sides to a story and we arent' going to ban someone based on a complaint from someone else.
A good practice is to deal with longer term members of the board, rather than people that just pop up for one or two sales. If you're considering buying something from someone, look at previous sales history, PM someone that dealt with that person. In all the years we've been here, I can only think of three incidents where there was questionable dealings. Overall that is pretty good.

Der_Iron_Chef 11-17-2007 02:15 AM

I think this sort of system has the potential to create more problems than it solves.

Rumika 11-17-2007 02:20 AM

What about even LFS. I have just had an incident with one that I would certainly like to inform people of.

Nope, just starts arguments. Best thing to do is not shop there anymore, if they continue to **** people off, they go out of business.

Delphinus 11-17-2007 02:28 AM

Unforunately no to the LFS's too. Sorry.. We actually had a forum for vendor reviews a few years ago. It became an administrative nightmare.

I've found that the best two ways to settle a disagreement with a vendor: talk to them directly and voice your concerns; or let your wallet do the talking.

Rumika 11-17-2007 02:49 AM

I totally hear what you are saying. I have resolved my situation I hope, I will find out tomorrow, it would just be nice to, I guess warn others of what to be leary of. Don't get me wrong, I am not one to go around bad mouthing LFS or anyone else for that fact.

We'll see when one of the mods are taken, maybe the response will be different.

{aww, nevermind} I just deleted my answer and will leave it at that. If thats how you and/or other members think of the staff make board decisions, then its just plain sad.

I for one, will inform Titus of my resignation and you can apply for the position, then perhaps make some changes if thats how you wish the board to be.

blaster 11-17-2007 05:26 PM

I think the mods are fine leave at that.

Snappy 11-17-2007 06:20 PM

IMO these types of threads generally turn into a "he said-she said" pi$$ing match that is seldom productive. I recommend communication between the people involved is the best course of action. Unfortunately in many cases it is a "live & learn" scenario but such is life. I have been both ripped off and unfairly "slagged" by members on this board. All I can do is privately warn others of my concerns and as far as the latter goes I think anyone that knows both me & the other party will consider the source.

cprowler 11-17-2007 06:51 PM

Well said Greg!

Just for your info, we had a thread regarding the subject. Although several were in favour, a good many were opposed to the idea of it. Between that and our staff discussion on it, specifically pointing out things like Greg mentioned, put an end to it.

I have seen some boards where it works pretty good but several of them are heavy handed moderated. I have also seen some that ended up a complete mess.

So the same as the vendor review idea, Canreef decided to pass on it for now. That does not mean it cant happen in the future if thats the direction a good portion of the membership wishes the board to go and the boards owner also thinks its a good idea.

Thanks
