Need help killing a coral!

Well i have a colony of Anthelia that i would like to get rid of completely, or at least manage it growth. It has been shading out my zoos and now it has spread to other parts of the tank. Im wondering if anyone has a way to kill this stuff before i have a whole tank full of it. Chipping it off is not an option and pulling it off manually only seems to have it spread out to the rest of the tank faster.
Any help would be appreciated.

Heres a Pic, the culprit is on the bottom right. It an older pic, so it has spread more covering the zoos.

I know how you feel, I have a colony that I have been trying to prune back. Now I have 10 little colonies all over my tank.

Cut it back as far as you can, then cover over the base in epoxy. Some people also kill with kalk. paste, but I'm not overly familar with that.

Is it possible to remove the rock it's on. If not the covering it up with epoxy like Catherine suggested works well.

i might try some kalk, do you think boiling water would do the trick? or this stuff is free to anyone willing to pull or cut it off the rock.

Free Anthelia anyone?

Removing the rock really isn't an option, there are 4 types of zoos, a branching hammer toadstool leather and 2 hawaiian feather dusters atttached.

Also anyone know where i could get some good long reach scissiors i could use to prune this stuff?

boiling water inserted to the middle of the head seems to cause them to shrivel and die. I killed off about half a colony that way when I was hunting aiptasia that had taken refuge in the middle of the colony.
I imagine Kalk would work even better.

if you cut them they'll just grow back so bear that in mind...

my emporer angel would clean them up in a day or two :)

I found tweezers to work the best to peel them off the rock. It took me over a year but I think my tank is free of anthelia...now all I need to do is get rid of the last of the kenya trees and a whole shwack of majano anemones :twised:

hey, since you got tons, can I have a clipping or just the stuff u were gonna throw out anyways?

04scoobysti 10-22-2007 04:38 AM

whatever you want its all yours! Just PM me and i'll shoot you my address and phone #
It seems to come off in small chunks or somtimes rips apart and if you let it go it gos and grows somwhere else in the tank. But i guess i'll have to start with the tweezers everly day along with a syringe of boiling water.
