Who got the blue Montipora?
Noticed the blue Montipora digitata disappeared off the J&L N&N page.
Anyone here pick it up? Let's see some pictures! Is there a frag waiting list yet? If so I want in please!!! |
I did I did!!! Sorry that I'm not closer to you!!! ....frags? Did you see how small it is?! I'm quite excited...it'll be flown here on Thursday so should have some pics up on the weekend.....
|

You bet Marie! I hope it's as pretty as it looked in the picture! (and I don't kill the freakin thing !)
Greg...it's just a digitata...about 3 or so inches... |
Digitata, but blue. Ordinarily I don't get too excited by digitata but this one was definitely an eyebrow raiser.
Sarah, seriously, maybe I'll look you up next time I'm on the Island. Don't worry, it won't be anytime soon (2 year old and a new one on the way - yeah I aint goin' nowhere.) It'll have grown all over your tank and you'll be all too happy to get rid of pieces of the weed by then. :p |
Not sure if this is kosher to link in like this, but the picture is still available on the site:

Thanks Tony for posting that....I tried to find it but alas was unable. If you make it to the island I will get you a piece for sure! It does appear to be an interesting piece...hopefully. I have always been happy with J&L so I'm sure it will look AMAZING....And I am hoping that it grows like a weed...this is one I wouldn't mind that happening with....seems like there may be an interest in frags:wink:!
I know what you mean, I have a 3.5 year old and 16 year old......when can I get away too?! It is tough...and who knows, I may end up out your way sooner than later...I was in Edmonton this summer as we have family in both Edmonton and Calgary so who knows! I will post a pic once it is received. I can't wait! |
It's here! And it is pretty.....we'll get pics once it colors up after shipping.....
looks like I have a frag (oops ) ... note to self to always check the bag after getting coral but the 3 year old ran in and all h**l broke loose.....and so after said 3 year old is in bed, a bit of staring at it I notice a fresh "cut" off one side...hmmm bit weird, then the light goes on....and I check the bag and low and behold one little frag....hopefully I got it in time as there wasn't much water in the bag anymore...... and the bidding begins at...ha ha ha ha ha...just kidding....but we'll see what I end up with! HUGE thanks to J&L once again! You guys and gals ROCK! now....I just "need" a calcium reactor...whew dosing sucks now! |
Got glue? Glue that piece onto some rubble and grow it out. :)
In a pinch, Loctite sells a superglue gel, about $5-6 at Home Depot/etc. but it's a small bottle (not terribly cost effective but will do in a hurry. Hobby shops and places like OA will sell you a bottle that holds 5 times as much for $10ish.. but for quick-and-dirty fragging the Loctite stuff is awesome!) Can't wait to see the pictures. :) |
thanks Tony! I have some Crazy glue gel that has worked well in the past for Zoo's, plus I also have some of the 2 part stuff J&L sells that has also worked well .......so I am going to glue it and see what happens...it's not a bad size at all...I'm a bit choked at myself for not checking the bag, and not being more careful with the coral. Oh well, I'm hoping this thing does grow like a weed and I can get a few frags down the road...

And we know who lives down the road from you :) |
ha ha ha ha ... yes "we" do don't we?! I also know of a sweet "unknown" monti that may need to be fragged!
|
....patiently waits inline for a frag
|
Hey Sarah how's my blue digitata doing  . Any pictures yet?
|
Photos?!
|
OK...forgive me the horrible photo skills but I will take more as it settles in....
first the coral, then the frag...in the pics they look "silver" but they are blue...... also forgive the diatom bloom...it seems to be the only problem I have had with the tank since treating with Interceptor........ http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2.../BlueMonti.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...bluemonti2.jpg |
Thank you for the photos. I think your photo skills do just fine!
|
Thanks Catherine! But, I think if someone with skills took pics it would look sooo much better!
|
Nice coral Sarah. Are you using the flash when you take pics?
|
You can try here: http://www.aquatic-photography.com/forum/ for photography tips & tricks.
|
I've tried with flash, without flash, with zoom and macro without..you name it, I just can't get it...ugh...now if I could get pics like you that would be GREAT! ...you have some amazing corals, and some excellent camera skills.....and Marie...you just better watch it...I'm coming to your house with a pair of cutters! Um WOW! And then I'll send ya to my place so you can take pictures too!
|
Thank you.
It looks like you've got the basics. Your photos are in focus and they are well framed (which is half the battle). You could try playing with the white balance if your camera will let you. |
Yeh, I have the white balance set, and numerous other things...finally tonight as I'm giving up I set one more thing and may have gotten a decent shot...I'll check the 100 or so that I took and maybe, just maybe there is a single decent one!
|
I was lucky enough to get a little frag of this blue digi from Sarah, and it grew like a weed! I just cut it way back today, I think I have 4 pieces if anyone is interested. I will post some pics of these and someother sps I had to cut back in a few days when they feel a little happier.
|
Digi or Stylo?
By all means, I am not one to say what it is but to me, that looks like a Styloporia rather than a digitata...I have a couple pieces of digi and a couple stylo's in my tank and yours resembles my stylos...They look too "plump" to be digi's...
|
I think we need some photos!
