One of the items I picked up from Golds hand picked coral shipment

Here is a green & purple lobophillia that I was able to take home. I also got one of the super green euphyllia but it has not expanded fully, I'll have to post a pic when it does.

I have to take my pictures with a flash, I just cannot seem to figure out white balances to be able to take actinic shots.

I would love to see what everyone else brought home, there was some really nice stuff!!

I got a small frogspawn (I'll try to get a picture later - I'll have to clean my glass first )

I was just gonna comment though, I went in expecting to see some nice SPS but all the nice SPS said "On hold for Greg" or "On hold for James."

As I walked in the store one super mondo nice purple monti walked out and of course that was the only one there was .. sigh, too bad.

I swear, when the time comes that I'm ready to buy more SPS (once my 280g is going), I think I'm going to just have to go directly to Fiji and hand pick the SPS myself.

So...is that glass clean yet?

digital-audiophile 09-16-2007 09:16 PM

My frogspawn seems to be having a hard time adjusting. I got him home around 5:00 Friday night, and he was closed up tight and remained that way through yesterday. He opened up a bit this morning under that actinics but once the hallides came on at noon he has been totally retracted into his skeleton. I just moved him around to see if the placement was incorrect.

Every fish I want is on hold for "Steve"....

My frogsapwn opened up a bit more and I took a picture. I'm impressed with my skills on this one :)

Tony,
There were only 5 sps pieces on hold for me. I've managed to id most of them and you will have access in due time.
I can always fix you up with a frag of that purple monti as well:mrgreen:
Don't forget I am still coral-sitting your sps for you, some of which is getting quite interesting, so when is that 280 going up so I can help you fill it? It's going to be fun.

Nice frogspawn, I have one just like it and they are very cool.

Delphinus 09-17-2007 05:24 AM

Hey Snappy, thanks man, and you know I'm just teasin' right? :) (In all fairness ... you had already come and gone when I got there, Albert and the gang just hadn't cleaned off the glass yet so the message was just still there.)

Anyhow, here's the frogspawn I picked up. Not as nice as Greg's but .. well, I think it has some potential. :)

Same piece, halides off but actinics on, with flash:

Not sure which photo I liked better. The green comes out more in the actinics-with-flash but I guess it's probably not all that true of a representation.

Try with just actinics, a tripod and and extended exposure...

Der_Iron_Chef 09-17-2007 02:34 PM

When I got there on Friday night, it looked like business as usual. There was only 1 SPS left, etc. So I just ended up buying two acan frags and an echino frag. Ah well....still like 'em :)

And Tony, I almost never take aquarium photos with a flash. I don't like the shadows it creates. Do you have photoshop? I find I can under/overexpose a photo at the tank, and correct it quite easily at the computer ;)

Der_Iron_Chef 09-17-2007 03:26 PM

Oh, and I also got a free big Aiptasia on one of the frags! I love freebies! Seeing as I've never before seen a single Aiptasia in my tank, I squirted it with boiling water right away. I hope I got it.

Delphinus 09-17-2007 04:24 PM

I almost never used to take aquarium photos with a flash, but, I will if the halides go off. I won't turn the halides back on for the sake of a photo as it really freaks the fish out, but the flash doesn't bother them one bit. Other than the shadows, the colours seem to come out reasonably true.

I guess I need to learn Photoshop. I have it, just find it far too overwhelming to use. I need a tutorial or a course or something. It is literally too overwhelming, so I don't use it. :(

Der_Iron_Chef 09-17-2007 08:53 PM

Tony, I will never again question your mad skillz :) I am like the karate kid telling Mr. Miagi what to do...he he.

As for photoshop...it's one of those things that is so overwhelming, but you've just got to dive in. I have a pretty decent how-to book if you'd like to borrow it.

Delphinus 09-17-2007 08:56 PM

hehe no worries Drew, I gotz no skillz to be questionin' in the first place.

A book eh, yeah that's not a bad idea. I just figure I kind of need a mentor in that software or something because .. I just stare at all the options going ... "uhhhh ... guh??? buh???? Gahhh!!!!" Then I close it and open the picture in the same old piece of software I've been using for 4 years that came with my Dell.

So where's all the pics of the hand picked SPS? I'd like to see what people got, and what will be at the next frag swap. Whoops, I forgot I'm not allowed to say frag swap anymore.

Frag swap!

Had my hand picks picked :twised:

digital-audiophile 09-18-2007 01:12 AM

:p Anyone here buy that super red donut? It was pretty nice! I'm looking forward to when Albert frags some of those acans, nice colours on some of those.

Swwet, you picked up that elegance. I used to have one just like it, one of my favourite corals that I ever owned. Alas, I lost mine in a tank crash over a year ago :(

Enjoy that doughnut it was sweet! I would have got it myself if I hasn't already blown too much cash.
