mr_alberta's new(ish) nano
Had this tank for a bit now, but recently tore it down and drilled it for a closed loop system. Here are the revamped specs:
Tank: 36"x12"x8" custom tank Water movement: Custom Sea Life T4 pump Tunze NanoStream 6045 Lighting: 36" SLS Tek Light 4x39W bulb fixture (2 Giesemann AquaBlue, 1 Giesemann Actinic+, 1 Giesemann Midday) Skimmer: Reef Octopus DDNW-250 Dual Recirculation needlewheel skimmer Heater: None - I figure that since the T3 is such a hot running pump to begin with, I most likely won't need a heater Chiller: Pacific Coast Imports 1/10hp Topoff: Tsunami Auto Topoff w/ Hagen 401 powerhead Livestock: 2-False Perc. Methodology: For this tank I am using the BB method once again. My previous tank was also a BB and I enjoyed that look quite a bit, so I've decided to do it again. Plus I can really crank up the flow if I need to and not worry about sand going everywhere. |
Any pics of the tank and hardwear?

Here are some quick pictures from this morning:

Hopefully the extra 9 gallons or so of water that my skimmer holds will bring the temperature down some as well. |
Its so cute!
How big is the monster skimmer? |

DDNW-250 Specifications: - 10" Diameter - 30" Tall - Recirculating Pumps (included): 2 x Octopus OTP 3000, 65W, 790GPH. - Requires additional feed pump with gph rating at approx. 1.5 times volume of your system. - Recommended for aquariums up to 650 gallons - Approx. Footprint 22.5" x 12.5" |
So um...why the monster skimmer, and mini tank combination?
|
Holy overkill on the skimmer http://mazeguy.net/surprised/wide-eyed.gif
|
haha I bet ther is water volum in the skimmer than in the tank.
|
I can see it now... Current live stock, 30 yellow tangs.. Nitrates, 0ppm.
Do you still have your big SPS tank? |
I bought that skimmer for the big tank, but then took down the big tank, but I already had the skimmer, so.......yeah, the rest is history lol. Besides, you know I love overkill lol
I really do need a fan or something on that tank though. The temperature is getting out of hand... |
I like the overkill, its kind of fitting....
Does it actually pull much out with 2 clowns? |
I'll let you know once its up and running. I broke one of the venturi fittings on it so its offline for now.
|
Dah
Is there a Doctor in the house ? " Yike ":onfire:
|
Lol! That is the funniest thing I have seen in a while :p
I like the tank though. The shallow long look really makes a nano look sweet! |
Just a question
what happens when the power goes out???? (6 gal of water from skimmer on the floor) lol |
That's going to involve some tricky plumbing. Right now I'll run the water just under the level where water enters the reaction chamber and see how it foams. If that doesn't work, then a check valve is my only other option.
|
I'm actually looking at picking up one a new reef octopus skimmer for my new tank.
How's it been for you so far? I have one of the smaller HOB ones and it's fantastic on my 40. |
Skimmer works fairly well. I didn't like the original venturi setup, so I modified mine a bit and it seems to suck in much more air now. The foam it creates is pretty thick, but, unfortunately I need to run the water level a lot higher in the skimmer than I would have liked.
|
So how about some new pics? I heard you got some nice stuff yesterday!
|
Hey Catherine,
I got some new stuff, but its all still sitting at Lando's place. I wanna get the tank running right before I start adding the "expensive stuff" |
I guess I'll have to bother Lando for photos or something. I want to see what everyone else got!
|
Looking good Harv!
That is a nice looking A. Valida. |
Did they all come from the order? They look great!
|
Thanks guys!
No, most of them came from ReefHawk1, but 2 of them did come from the order (tan millie and that large acro in the center of my tank). |
 Um, which one is that one?
