Wow! Now thats gorgeous!! Man we never see stuff like that here anymore, I guess that tsunami a few years ago wiped out some of the really good clam farms, I've been pretty disappointed with the availability here as of late (either that or I need to make the rounds more often).

Just 9. Once I have my GHA problem beat, I may consider adding a couple more small ones.

Christy,

I agree with you, the selection as of late is lacking. I've been lucky to find some nice pieces from other hobbiests, but nothing like what Pescador, or Quinster have.

Yeah, they must have gotten them a few years ago. Funny thing, a couple years ago I saw some seriously amazing clams, thing is I didn't have the money back then (they were fairly $$). Now I have the money and there are no clams  I'm on the hunt now!!

michika 08-21-2007 07:43 PM

I keep finding other really beautiful clams, e.g. Kari's clams, but either I can't accomidate them at this moment, or I can't get to wherever they are to be picked up. Lately as in the last two weeks, I've seen probably 6 clams I would happily aquire, if I had the space.

...nice job christy, you with all your pretty clam photos....now I want a bigger tank for more clams...darn....I guess I'll have to upgrate! :)

Delphinus 08-21-2007 08:08 PM

Delphinus 08-21-2007 08:38 PM

Thanks - the squamy actually is now so big I cannot do a top-down shot of it and get the whole clam in the frame. :)

This thread is making me want to go and find me some new clams too  Some very NICE pictures in here!!!!!!!

Clams are the main reason I started in reefing, got into SPS cause I figured if I have to keep parameters up for clams, may as well throw in some pretty colored sticks as well.

BCShelly 08-21-2007 09:25 PM

What is a good price to pay for a clam? My fish guy here has a couple of nice one's for $99 each

IMO depends on how badly you want it  My crocea was either $59 or $69 and I can't remember what I paid for the maxima. A crocea I had prior to that was $79 but died about 2 weeks after I bought it

michika 08-21-2007 09:45 PM

I try not to pay more then $50 a clam unless its crazy gorgeous. Normally I pay around $30-40.

Quinster 08-22-2007 03:25 PM

All these beautiful clam pics makes me want more....

Delphinus 08-22-2007 03:41 PM

Holy crap! That squamosa in the Hawaii aquarium photos (last photo, right behind the convict tang).... WOW!

Ohhhhhh... Quinn's right, this is a tortuous thread. Must ... resist .. urge .. to go out and find more clams.... :p

Chowder 08-22-2007 03:44 PM

Hey Raf I assume those are from a dealers tank not private? Nice pictures and some sweet clams. I would have been drooling if I was standing in front of those tanks not to mention trying to figure how I could get those home.

Delphinus 08-22-2007 03:57 PM

Think those are from the Waikiki Aquarium's outdoor exhibit. Hawaii is too far north to have any wild clams, and the import/export of reef animals for the hobbiest is essentially completely forbidden.

michika 08-23-2007 09:45 PM

Another one of my clams! Little maxima I got from Reefwerkz back in March.

yeah, from Waikiki Aquarium. A must visit for every reef geek! :D

Samw 08-28-2007 05:48 AM

Some growth sequence pics. I'm guessing the clam has lost some color in the last picture due to me reducing the amount of light from 300W to 150W during the summer to keep heat down. The first pic was taken almost 2 years ago.

Delphinus 08-28-2007 07:28 AM

Wow Sam, awesome growth shots.

Some more from me:

T. derasa (picture sucks of course - taken under actinics only, flash, and a wee little bit of post-processing to try to unwash out the effect - should almost just discard the photo and start over.. )
http://members.shaw.ca/hobiesailor/a...827/derasa.jpg

New guys from Mario/Darlene (thanks guys! And thanks findingnemo1 and dolphinpoint for your help in transport!!)

Teardrop T. maxima

Squirty the spawny T. squamosa (still looking a little "spent" if you ask me)

Doug 08-30-2007 10:12 PM

Maybe its just me Sam, but I think the colour is better in the last pic.

Der_Iron_Chef 08-30-2007 10:18 PM

Wow...I really need to get some clams.
