water changes
just wondering .... on average.... what % is your weekly water change?
reply
-10-15% a week,shudn't be 2 much with a skimmer on hand, although
many say that a 30% water change is not 2 much at all either. |
5g/40g each week which equals ~8%
really catherine that little?
15% weekly sometimes 10% if I'm lazy or need to do a big w/c on my nano
15% weekly on a 29 g tank, skimmerless
15% (40 Gal) on my 300 Gallon system weekly.
I do a 15 gallon water change on about 80 gallon system.
5g/ week on my 45 cube. However, I also only did about 5g per week on my larger tanks but they were running with large becketts and my turf scrubber.
18% (55 gal) on my 300 gal reef with skimmer and moderate fish load.
Yeah just 5g. It seems to be the perfect amount as my tank responds quite positively. Anything more and it seems to be unhappy.
yep i do water changes...sometimes
50 gallons per week, but I'm not positive how much water I have overall....My guess is that is right around 10%.
8-10% on a 50g weekly - has a Deltec MCE600 skimmer

Turf scrubber = refugium. Usually one filled with Chaeto or some other fast growing, nitrate absorbing macroalgae.
 10% monthly...i see no difference since when i was doing weekly changes. gotta like lazy:redface:
Weekly changes?
Last while ~10% about every 3 weeks. |
ok i was just checking im right in the ball park then..... well i guess ... i havent done a water change in ummmmmmm 2 months:redface: just alittle busy at work.. i did a 10 gallon water change today so that is just under 8% and have another 20 gallons brewing as we speek to change out in a few days.. i have a big skimmer and a refug ( roughly 15 gallon) and fun a phosban reactor... i know make time for the tank!!! but in all honesty the is no alge and i have seen more coraline growth in the last month with now water changes then when i was doing them regularly in my old system
I stick to my No more the 5% rule.
In this hobby nothing should be sudden or quickly so small/Slow change is better for me. |

The scrubber screen is exposed to air, as it fills and then dumps. This method is suppose to filter a lot better than just using macro algaes in a sump, but some of us beg to differ. I believe Inland Aquatics uses large scrubbers on most of their large breeding and coral systems. My unit is in hibernation, as I only have a small tank. Perhaps someday I may use it again. Below is a pic of the scrubber screen and another of a new turf scrubber. I dont have any idea who sells them anymore. Legal issues regarding patents have put them to the side I guess. |
Do the detritus build up in a easy to reach spot for you guys when performing water changes?
I have all my flow sort of organized so that the detritus is in two spots (for the most part). One spot is right under the powerheads and the other is in a weird spot under some rocks (never been able to get rid of this dead spot). Its amazing when you go BB how much detritus collects on the bottom. No wonder I could never keep a sandbed!
I'm changing 50g which is 15%-20% once a month.

Hey Doug, do you have any spec drawings of your turf scrubber? I'd like to try one on my upcoming tank.
Danny, I dont have any drawings of mine, just pics. We had many long threads on RC about them.
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...&highlight=ats Here is a dandy on Eric,s forum. It has some drawings I believe. This one is a discussion between turf scrubbers & refugiums. I believe it also had some drawings but also a few heated words, as some wanted more pics and detailed plans. You can see my response on that. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...s&pagenumber=1 There are lots more on RC arguing the benefits or non benefits. I,m not sure if its in one of the above or not but one had superb pics of Inland Aquatics. |
