Tell me about your lighting period
Mine is halides on for 11.25 hours. .25 for the warm up of the bulbs.
Actinic is on for 14 hours. 2 hours before and 1 after. |
Actinics for 14 hours, 10000K PC's for 12 hours, and 175 watt MH on for 6 hours. oh and moonlight for 12 hours
Steve |
The way I look at it .... in the tropics, daylight is darn near perfectly 12 hours any day of the year. So my tanks are lights on for 12, lights off for 12.
50g: halides for 12 hours 75g: halides for 10 hours, VHO for 12 (currently no VHO thanks to the zap!, however, but will return to the 12 hour cycle when I have time to look at it) 20g: halide for 10 hours, no dusk or dawn, but gets residual light from other tanks/plant stands/etc. But you already knew all this, so I'm just wasting electrons by typing it in. ;) |
No it's good info keep it comming.
I do have a purpose for the info once we get the only 12 people that actually post on canreef's answers to the question. :P Any of you lurkers want to tell me about your lighing period :D |

DE MH250 10 hours moonlight 10 hours Mitch |
I have my actinics on from 6:30 am till 9 pm (stays on longer as my wifes parot really likes the actinics)
my 175 W Turtle basking light from 6:45 to 8:15 pm 2 40 W flourescent rom 8:00am till 8:30 PM my 1000W MH freshwater grow light 08:00 am to 5:30PM 2 110 W VHO from 08:30 am till 07:30 PM 175W Mh from 08:30 till 08:00 and Ok this may sound stupid but... on full moon nights I leave the actinics on all night. If you save SAD...seasonal affected disorder....a couple days of sun tanning in my basement wil fix that up :D |
Both tanks run a 12 hour cycle, gradual increase/decrease. A small red night-lite in 60g canopy and a conveniently located streetlight outside gives the 90g a "simulated" moonlight glow...
I read somewhere that "strange people" become more active during the full moon cycle. Fortunately Ross has dismissed that theory... I wonder if the city would consider synchronizing that street light with moon cycles :? I'm afraid to ask. I think I know where you're goin' with this one so I'm probably not included in the 12 required responses... |

Yay I get to be person #13!! Woohoo! Who knew eh? :P
My tank has 2x250W Iwasakis on 12h/day. Actinics gave up the ghost. An interesting electrical problem. Apparently my hood carries a charge  Christy :) |

I share Tony's philosophy on the 12 hour daylight:
- 2x 40W NO actinics 12 hours. - 2 x 175 W 10,000K 9 hours. |

The wrong glo
Hi Sam, yep sorry about that-it's a daylight powerglo tube not a 50/50 like once stated. I run a total of 90 watts-that's it! And things keep growing and growing. I was considering to upgrade to pc's, but I thought if things are working fine-then don't fix em.
|
2 x 96watt PC Smart lights on at 6:30 am off at 9:00 pm......
I MAY.. thats a big may change my plant room around and put in a 135ish tank. I have a 400 watt MH and I might put it over the tank with a 10,000k bulb and move the shelves I have the Orchids on, I already suppliment their light needs with fluorescents. If I do that the MH will be on about 13 hours a day. |
