90g or 120g debate
whats your thoughts?
currently have a 90g setup, it came with a store bought stand, and i recently got a 120g setup with starphire front, homemade stand and lots of good equipment (tunzes/pm skimmer/neptune controller). do i keep the 90 with the nice looking stand and equipment? or do i transfer the contents to the 120g and redo the stand? am i going to notice that much diffence in volume? the current tank is 18" across and the 120g is 24" across. what would you do? |
I think the obvious answer is to keep both :-) But realizing that's not necessarily possible, if it were me, I'd transfer everything over to the 120, sell the 90G setup and use that money to pay for a new stand.

ill 2nd that answer

Go with the 120 Rob! More water volume = a more stable environment for your fish and corals!

120
Go with the 120 and make it an "in wall". Then sell the 90 and buy lots of new toys for the 120.

It's a no-brainer, the 24" of depth (the front to back dimension) leaves you WAY more aquascaping options. Always go with depth.
If it's a DIY built stand, it would not be too difficult to "dress" it up a little, if you're a little bit handy. For example, since the structure is already sound, you don't have to worry about the exterior providing any additional support. Thus you could go with a thin layer of plywood, stained and varnished, and maybe some cabinet doors. Or heck, do as suggested and build an inwall tank. Makes for a super quiet tank viewing experience. :) |
Go with the 120g more room is always better:biggrin: We have a 120g and we bought a stand from petsmart for $240 a nice wooden one that fit perfectly.

I've always had 18" (front to back) tanks & now I have a 24" tank & it's awesome. Of course, now I wish it was 30" or more so that I would have more room to aquascape.
Seriously, having that extra space will open up many more options & your fish & corals will appreciate that extra 6". Anthony |

I think the correct answer would be to GIVE me the 90 gallon on my way back from Castlegar May long. That way you don't have to worry about what to do with it.

are any frags making the journey with you ??? |

What do you need? Right now I can do frags of pink rimmed cap, orange cap, frogspawn, green candy cane & bule prostrata (acro). Everything else is pretty small still. They should all make the 7-8 hour journey. Let me know if you need anything from the LFS.

I'm hoping to get off of work early so that I can be out of town by 1pm. Which lands me in Gar around 8pm your time, God willing. I would hope to just drop everyone off at my families and then head straight to your place. Why don't you PM me your address and phone number, I'm sure my brother could find you house easily enough, I'll drag him along with me.
