Nice pictures Sean!!

Now don't keep us in suspese like that, what camera did you get??

spikehs 12-06-2002 10:07 PM

oh yah, the canon s230 digital elf. won it off ebay for 560 total, cheapest i found here so far is 599...Hopefully santa will contribute a bit to the camera fund! I am really happy with the quality, just need a bigger card then the dinky 16mb it comes with. I need a really small camera, because if i am taking it out everywhere i dont want to be leaving it just laying around, i want to keep it on me.

I don't know if "cute" is the word - those look hilarious! (And by hilarious, I mean healthy and vigourous.)

Good job! How much?

Ooooh, careful asking Us! We have a saying, "no cash between friends!" (OK, maybe just a little cash.)

Maybe frags will get involved after all...

That's awesome Sean, glad to hear you've finally had success!

Keep up the good work. I'm sure you'll have a waiting list for new homes. And don't worry about the frozen food yet, mine usually took 5-6 weeks before they'd start eating it. I have found that they take to frozen mysis first. Just make sure it is shaved into tiny pieces.

some bad news, one died....it looks like it got crushed by the bottom plate of the breeders pen when it decided to come off of the bottom...i guess 15/16 aint bad.

canadawest 12-11-2002 06:03 PM

Unfortunately the fatalities probably aren't over yet. I usually find I lose a few in the first two weeks, then natural selection kicks in after about a month or so and more kick off with no warning. At this point 15/16 is a terrific survival rate, but don't be surprised if you end up around the 10/16 mark by 8-10 weeks. :(

I'm not trying to be a bummer, just based on my experience over the past year raising 4 broods thus far.

And in related news, my stupid male has refused to hold the last three pregnancies! Hangs on for about a week, then one day no eggs. Very frustrating! :x

a little update,

the babies are growing fast (still have 15/16) they are eating a LITTLE frozen food, it seems they will take a couple bites, then when they realize its not alive they stop eating it (i am trying frozen baby brine). They are finally starting to get some spots on their lower fins, and we now have a little sibbling rivalry sometimes (nothin major though). But the other news is my male is pregnant AGAIN. who knows if he will hold full term this time but it has been about a month since he was last holding. I'll try to get some updated pics.

Sean

UPDATE: put 2 more pics up here : http://www.pbase.com/spikehs/fish
they are fish2 010 and fish2 016
