Comments on Euro-Reef RS protein skimmers?

Anyone have any comments on the Euro-Reef RS protein skimmers? I have a ASM G3 and want to upgrade. I am thinking of the Euro-Reef RS250. How do they perform? Is the collection cup easy to clean etc.
Thanks,
Shane

i've got that skimmer on my tank and it seems fine for me. cup is easy to clean and access so long as your cabinet is accommodating. check to see if you're receiving the new impeller, it's black and if not request it. ER will replace but it's a bit of a hassle.

Are you using the RS250? Which model are you using and on what size of tank?
Thanks,
Shane

RS250 yup. i've got it on a 120g, total volume is about 150 though, a bit overkill but i got a good deal on it.

I actually love the G3. It works great. The collection cup is easy to remove and replace with just a fraction of a turn. It is so easy to use. You don't have to spend time "fine tuning it". I just think it is too small for my system and want to upgrade. My tank is heavily stocked and all the fish are growing and the G3 is no longer large enough.

I have the RS 135 and it's been good for me. I wish it came with more of that lube for the gasket that goes between the riser neck and the skimmer body, but that's minor.

I have a very light load. 5 fish under 3" each in a 120g system.

I have 120g total volume and I think the RS250 is just right, not overkill. Mind you, I have 140lb liverocks and a tonne of corals. My previous RS135 wasn't keeping up, and I hardly feed my fish. I've had the skimmer running for a month now and I must say it's was a very benificial upgrade. Mine has the new black needlewheel and the Gen-x6000 pump. Noise level compared to the sedra 5000 is about double, it humms and vibrates quite loud, definately unbarable if you're in the same room. As well the sucking noise from the venturi hose is also noisy. This was expected with the increase of a more powerful pump, I don't have a problem with it as my sump is in a dedicated fish room. IMO, if your sump is not in an enclose cabinet or room, the noise will drive you crazy.

i have that CS 250 with dual 5000's and mine is quiet all you hear is the sucking if the fine air.

kaboom 04-05-2007 02:22 AM

Sedra5000 are not noisy, you can hardly hear the air suction and there isn't much vibration. The Gen-x6000 on the other hand, appears to be similar in size, but is a potent skimmer pump. It's has 3 times the gph throughput of the sedra5000.

I've got two RS 250s. Both are good. GenX 6000s on each. Quiet. Airlines are noisy, but I've gotten used to them. One of them is in the same room I sleep in.

Cheers,
