Red Sea Max nano

Does anyone have a Red Sea Max? Or has anyone seen one modified to take a 50w or 75w MH?

Stoll 07-25-2007 01:40 PM

I'm very interested in these nanos as well. I'm seriously considering making the Red Sea Max my next tank endeavour, but the lighting seems a bit weak to me.

Someone out there must know!

I found out on another forum that it has been done, but the tank doesn't look as sleek afterwards.

I ended up going with a DIY project and am much happier.

Red Coral in Calgary has one of the Red Seas Max's set up. It is a slick looking tank! I wish that it had a built in MH as well. I'm tempted to get one for the living room, I've been thinking a bout a small tank for the main floor but wanted something that is nice and neat and not a mess of wires.

Let me know if you want one Greg.

michika 07-25-2007 03:47 PM

Do the new ones now come with MH lighting, or am I just special and can only find the ugly modded ones?

Nate 07-25-2007 03:51 PM

nope

The red sea max only comes with the "t5 power compacts" which are 55 watt power compacts.

The new JBJ 28 gallon nano comes with the 150 watt halide unit, wavemaker, and skimmer.

Nate

Both are available in all edmonton and Calgary stores

I have been snooping around for reviews and information on the Red Sea Max and came across this thread on a UK reef forum...

http://www.reefsuk.org/forum/viewtop...er=asc&start=0

so far it's up to 43 pages long, and I've read about the first 14 pages so far. Seems to me that these folks have a pretty good handle on it.

where does a guy find a jbj nano?

Pan 09-09-2007 08:13 AM

Locally in edmonton I don't know....J&l sells them as well as a few places in calgary.

I'd by a cadlights tank over a JbJ or Red sea, or biocube...

JBJ 28 Gallon Nano-Cube HQI (Reef Series) $499

andresont 09-09-2007 09:05 PM

Boy ! I like this cube a lot !
The only thing one will have to buy is Auto Top Off.
They talk a lot about how cool the canopy is, but they also mention chiller more then once. I wonder how cool is cool ?

digital-audiophile 09-09-2007 09:13 PM

I just read you link there and am excited a little bit too about this tank. I might have to look into one of these.

i have crabs 09-09-2007 10:01 PM

from what ive read it seems like over half the people with one set up say they need a chiller.

Yah, i thought so too, 150Watt of heat that close to the water even with 4 fans runing might be too hot:(
But hey , what one would not do to keep a beautifull reef cube ?
How about plumbing a heat exchange coil inside a toilet bowl for cooling...lol
