When the puffer PUFFS....

You can see our tank from our living room....so as I am watching TV I look over and think what the f**k is that in the tank...figure out it's "Bumper" our porcupine puffer and he is PUFFED! So we run around, of course we can't find any of the 4 digitals in the house, finally find one (after much swearing and running around like chickens with our heads cut off!!!) and get a few pics as he is starting to deflate...holy was that cool!!!!

hey that's pretty cool. Any idea what freaked him out enough to puff?

Chaloupa 02-14-2007 05:38 AM

no clue...no new fish, he's well fed...and the Copperband and Angel were the only fish close to him....he doesn't like the Rabbit and it doesn't like him but it was on the other side of the tank...WEIRD but cool!

Absolutely cool.

Great looking Porky, Sarah!!

Chaloupa 02-14-2007 03:15 PM

THANKS guys! He is pretty cool! A bit more aggressive than I thought he would be, but regardless he's cool!

Sushiman 02-14-2007 04:24 PM

they may inflate without a stressor as well, I wouldn't worry too much about it. He looks great!

Awesome puffers.

Haha... if a porky like that were to puff up in the bag from the LFS, would those spines poke a hole through the bag? Heh.. that would suck.

Puffers have such a personality in their faces. I wonder if being puffed up hurts, like a cramp or something.

X-Treme 02-14-2007 11:31 PM

Are these puffers in reefs, cause I read that they are NOT reef safe, but now I want one SOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad for my new tank. They are so cute.

Chaloupa 02-15-2007 12:09 AM

that's a tough one...mine is in a FOWLR and a "few" corals. GSP and Paly's only...had some SPS but the water was of course not "clean" enough....he doesn't care about the corals just the clean up crew...they are few and far between now as he made a "nice light snack" of them!!

Skimmer Juice 02-15-2007 01:17 AM

I would watch out with zoos and polyps. They should be good with lps,I have 3 puffers, the dogface type puffers will get into more corals, a porc would be good choice for some lps corals. my puff's all puff up once and a while , I have read they do it from time 2 time, just to see that they can still do it. Kinda like practice.

Diana 02-16-2007 12:43 AM

ours in in FOWLR

Johnny Reefer 02-16-2007 02:21 AM

That's cool, Sarah. The Puffanator .
