Thank you from Elite Aquatics

I want to thank everyone for the support they showed in that thread last night. Its really great to have you guys as my guests and I really appreciate the patience as this has been a HUGE endeavour and not without delays and complications. Its nice to hear people realize that I suffer all the problems everyone else does with a tank times several hundred tanks. Add a dry stock section and invite the public daily and it becomes a little more work.

I was nice to hear some people voice that I've still got a ways to go to be what this shop can be. A swift kick is good for motivation sometimes.

You guys rule. Anything you need, let me know.

I especially want to thank Richard for starting the thread. Thanks man.

Keep up the good work, Colby.

I still owe you some Guinness

Did miss the thread? I can't find it. :(

Der_Iron_Chef 01-31-2007 04:20 AM

I'm guessing it was deleted. It wasn't very nice.

Good thing it's gone then. :)

Richard_Dicosimo 01-31-2007 04:38 AM

it wasn't very nice?
i simply asked if i had been going in on the wrong days.
hey you know what? I enjoy going to all the fish stores around town, the people are friendly the fish are nice to look at as well as the corals.

is it my fault that you don't take the dead fish out of your tank and i posted about it?
hey how about saying HI when a potential customer comes in, i came in one day and you looked at me as though i was there to inconvenience you. and every other time i have come in i have not been greeted.

i simply posted to see what other customers thought of your store, and maybe see if there were good days to go.

I enjoy Golds more than any of the other stores in town because the people there are friendly and they greet you and chit chat no matter how busy they are. as well if you think that I am the only person on the board that enjoys being greeted you are wrong. i understand that all fish stores will have dead fish and corals in their tanks from time to time. but come on how long does it take to take a couple dead fish out ESPECIALLY when you have as many in your tanks as you do at least one dead fish for every 2 tanks!

Richard

why was the thread deleted last night? and why did i not receive an email or pm, in case i was breaking some forum rules it would be nice to be informed of my mis-compliance. if anyone knows?

G1GY 01-31-2007 05:27 AM

I only really shop at one store because of the people that opperate it. I'll probably just keep going there for as long as I'm in this hobby. :)

Delphinus 01-31-2007 05:45 AM

Ok. Guys, you're forcing me to put my moderator's hat on for a second.

The thread was removed because we don't allow vendor reviews here. Sorry. Sometimes one or two might get missed but when they get high profile enough to be noticed they get removed. Again I'm sorry but you won't find many boards that do allow the practise. This was something that was learned the hard way.

If your thread gets removed and you don't get a warning PM, consider it a freebie. It means you're not in trouble, but the thread had questionable content (it may not even be by the thread originator) that gets it removed from the public eye. We do sometimes try to PM people but sometimes it's just not practical to PM everyone, so sometimes it will happen it just gets removed without an explanation.

EmilyB 01-31-2007 06:37 AM

I think missing something here just gets everyone wondering and speculating. Just IMHO.

Delphinus 01-31-2007 06:42 AM

True, .. I'll try to be more proactive about any thread I move. But I can't always do it for those where it's not me pulling the strings. ;)

albert_dao 01-31-2007 07:02 AM

What an odd thread :X

Odd indeed, my interest has been peeked. But from what is led on here about "last night's" thread leads me to believe it wasn't very pretty. Brings me back to the old BA's days.

Well, it kind of *is*...since you decided to post about it. I'm not trying to be a sh1t disturber here, but we're talking about someone's livelihood, and something in which they put lots and lots of effort. To flame that publicly isn't nice, that was just my point.

If I don't like a store, for whatever reason, that's my right and privilege. I just think it's in poor taste to state that publicly, in a forum where Calgary's customer base will definitely read it.

G1GY 01-31-2007 06:06 PM

Allright!

That's it!

Yadda yadda.

It's a case of free speech vs. political correctness, with the majority of society leaning towards the latter. Truth is, no one wants their forum torn apart due to the approval of differing opinions that cause discomfort. That is essentially why Vendor Reviews is now prohibited. Now that speech is somewhat limited, sometimes I see is mockery and sarcasm towards a member when disagreement insues.

No one needs a possible slander/libel lawsuit on their hands.

I'm all for free speech, but when I'm at someone's house, I want to respect and follow their rules the best I can. If I wanted to talk about how sh1tty a place is operated, I'd save it for when I was having a beer with a buddy.

One individual that's not afraid to speak their mind vs 500 politically correct users will never go in the single person's favour.

Der_Iron_Chef 01-31-2007 07:37 PM

Ok ok. Apologies to Richard, et al. Who can tell I'm part Irish?

Point taken, Gary. LOL.

Moogled 01-31-2007 08:56 PM

Gary, where ARE the bongs?

You never bring 'em. >: (

albert_dao 01-31-2007 09:11 PM

You don't want none of that Marco. Gary gave Dave some sort of nasty lip infection during their rendevues, last Wednesday. I'm not trying to implicate something, but I'm down a co-worker and a Thursday night. Bad Gary.

So there is this monkey up a tree in the jungle smoking a funny cig.. An iguana walks by, smell the smoke, looks up the tree and says to the monkey "what are you doin up there?" Monkey says "smokin a funny cig. would you like some?" Iguana goes up the tree and has a couple of BIG puffs and say "that's the first time I have ever smoked this stuff and my mouth is getting really dry" monkey says "there is a pond just down the trail and to the left, go get a drink" Iguana walks off and finds the pond and starts taking a big drink. The Iguana satisfied with a nice cool drink looks up and sees a croc staring at him. Croc says "what are you doing taking a drink from my pond?" Iguana tells the story of the monkey smoking the funny cig. down the path and how his mouth got dry. Iguana tells the croc. he should go down the trail find the monkey and have a puff for himself. The croc. thinks that's a good idea and off he goes. The croc. smells the sweet smell of the funny cig. looks up and there and behold is the monkey, the croc.yells up "hey monkey come down and give me a puff" The monkey startled looks at the croc. and says

I cant belive i missed the post serves me right for going to work. But for the most part I am always greeted going into elite and golds. Well it depends whos working at golds, but for the most part i am greeted.

Both stores go out of their ways to help customers.

Colby goes out of his way every week to bring in crickets for me, yes crickets at a fish store. He is the only person working in the store, im sure he works alot harder then some of the people who shop at the store, and it can get pretty busy in there.

This forum is for hobby information not for vender reviews. You either shop there or you dont, thats enough said.

Soon enough someone will be made an example of for starting these threads, and it wont be me.

end rant....

cag 02-01-2007 04:54 AM

Well, this has lasted a long time. Longer than the first thread. While I appreciate knowing a bit of what others think. Perhaps we should remind ourselves that it is just that. When somebody goes on a rant, it is usually because they are ticked off, and likely not exibiting much of a balanced perspective. And unfortunatly, we all tend to be more vocal when we have an axe to grind. So, posts can tend to lean on the crappy side of ranting if they were left going. I think it was great to see so many people post positive things. And although the thread needed to be pulled, I am thankful there were significantly more people posting positive comments. Way to go Calgary Club. It's rallying together and supporting our local stores that will see our hobby grow. And that's good for everybody.

EmilyB 02-01-2007 06:15 AM

 Woo Hoo, yeah !!

And someday you might be able to buy a pump locally when you need it asap too !

As far as the local LFS looking like crap, they all did the day I was out. Bad timing I guess.

EG-9 02-01-2007 07:35 AM

Come join together !!!!!

EL OH EL! I'm only here to Cyber with Gary.

lukep77 02-01-2007 08:44 AM

I have to chime in here every time I walk into Colby’s store he always greets me by name. And for someone who runs the store by himself, I think he does a great job.

In my opinion Calgary needs to start supporting there locally owned and operated store more, and a lot less complaining that you weren’t greeted at the door.

I can't tell you how may times we have walked into a ( I’m not going to say the name but it has Land in it) store and there have been 3 or 4 people standing around with there thumbs up there behinds, with out so much as a smile or a head nod that we even walked in. Hence we now buy our dog and cat food from the vet.
