christy's 90 gal tank - 2007

My tank is looking half decent these days (only half mind you) so I thought I'd post up a pic. Lately I've had a halimeda bloom but I have no problems with that as it looks kinda nice and is easy to haul out  I guess I finally managed to kill the acro eating crab as I haven't had any sps damage lately (even though something is creating a little lair on the left side of the tank underneat the rocks). Time to fill in some holes!

Whoa, looking nice and full there Christy. I like the pink birdnest.

And as always, the infamous purple regal tang

muck 01-08-2007 09:04 PM

Good to see the tank is doing reasonablely well for you these days C.

rickjames 01-08-2007 09:45 PM

Yep, you definitely have some room in there. Looks good!

Halimeda is funny stuff, I always go to pull it out, because it eats Ca/Alk, then I change my mind, think it looks nice and leave it in.

You have some nice pieces there Christy. Is the first bird a tan purple tip and when are you going to frag it. What kind of fish is in that in the seventh picture. It looks similar to a barnicle blennie but don't think it is one.
Chris

Chris

The first birdsnest is kind of yellowy with pink tips. I actually have two of them that size and they are fast growers. I'm thinking about fragging them right down to nothing to make more room for my more "showy" corals.

The fish in the seventh photo is a lined blenny. They max out at about 2" inches. He is one of my favorite fish

I am interested in a frag of the Birds nest when you decide to frag it also the pink one . Thats a cool fish. I have had a barnicle blennie and it was my favorite fish but had a unfortunate heater accident that baked it and most of my corals quite a few months back. It had a lot of personality.

I would take a frag of the yellowy birdsnest

Chaloupa 01-29-2007 11:15 PM

WOW nice pics Christy!!! Cute blenny too!

sumpfinfishe 01-30-2007 05:16 AM

Go girl
Wow the tank is looking amazing, I will have to put in a good word for you with the FTOTM team
Luv those close ups too!
Oh yeah almost forgot, indian giver needs some birdsnest back too

Doug 01-30-2007 02:53 PM

Those are some great looking corals Christy and good pics also. Seems to be coming along really good now.

christyf5 03-13-2007 07:36 PM

I had the camera out the other day so I thought I'd get a few more pics. I've had an Iwasaki 65K bulb on the right hand side for about 4 weeks so some of the corals have changed color somewhat (esp the "yellow" cap). Managed to get ahold of some used Ushios though so things are back on track

The tank March 11/2007:

And of course a few new additions

Reefhawk1 03-14-2007 12:45 AM

Great looking tank Christy. What are you using for lighting?

woodcarver 03-14-2007 12:59 AM

Hi Christy , They are wonderfully sharp photo's,can I ask what camera you are using ?
................Dave

christyf5 03-14-2007 01:05 AM

Tnanks for the compliments guys

Stan, I'm using 2-250W Ushio 10K bulbs. I've been using them for about a year now.

Dave, my camera is a nikon coolpix 880. An older model but it takes the most awesome macro shots

woodcarver 03-14-2007 02:32 AM

Thanks Christy . I had a Nikon Coolpix 4500 that was also terrific for macro shots . Unfortunately left it in a taxi in Thailand with all the holiday shots.:( :(
Maybe I will go the same route again with Nikon !
.................Dave

GrimReefer 03-15-2007 05:29 AM

nice tank!

is the regal tang actually purple??? or are your colours off?

christyf5 03-15-2007 02:06 PM

My camera captures alot of the "purple" from the lighting on that fish for some reason. Even when I turn the actinics off. Every other camera he's blue

He is blue in real life

BCOrchidGuy 03-16-2007 03:29 AM

Christy, as always your tank looks amazing.

Doug

christyf5 04-09-2007 10:35 PM

Moved the tank to its new home last weekend. Its directly across from a window (as you can see ) so I guess I'll have to take photos on crappy weather days or at night.

Got rid of a few things, as per usual any re-aquascaping done by me reduces real estate

Alot of the corals lost color in the time after the move, I'm not really sure what this is due to ie. temp, lack of calcium reactor online etc. I just got the ozone set properly and the calcium reactor running this weekend so things shoudl perk up. One thing I did not envision "requiring" so soon was my chiller, apparently the room I have it in must have zero airflow and the tank was up to 82 degrees before I knew it and the room was a total sweatbox. Got the chiller running and the tank is a steady 78. Now to deal with the room temperature!!
