I think this is just a type of snail. The worst it can do is irratate your corals . Pick it off of the rock if you want it gone.
http://www.canreef.com/photopost/dat...l_tank_038.jpg This is a type of pest anenome. You might want to kill it before it gets a chance to spread. http://www.canreef.com/photopost/dat...l_tank_049.jpg This one looks like a hydroid colony to me and should be removed IMO. They are not good to have, but I'm not 100% positive that this is one. http://www.canreef.com/photopost/dat...l_tank_046.jpg Hope this helps. :) |
How did you get the pictures to look so big?

This thread in the picture forum covers it all. http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=8129 |
The first picture seams to have started to spread after 2 years. I have 3 babys in different areas.I thought that it may be a sun anemone but not sure.
The second picture is spreading and if you touch it they all retract The third picture sorry for the bad picture but if you look at the end of the right branches you can see a web . It appears that they set a web to catch food and bring it back and feed. thanks for the help everyone |
Hey--I answered this in RC, too! Doesn't the "pest anemone" look like a blastomussa to anyone else? Or is it just me? I never wear my glasses at the computer, so....
Also, contrary to public opinion on RC, the "hyrdroids" look like yellow polyps to me. |
sorry for the other post pictures are not in right order

Holy moley.
Thanks, G1GY....I knew as I typed, I was doomed to be corrected  |
It does look like the piture of the pest anemone. I thought I was doing good but I better get rid if it.Thanks g1gy

Get rid of the hydroids as soon as you can they will take over... I think many of us have had huge problems with these I know at least sumpfinfishe and I have torn down our entire tanks in an attempt to get rid of them... and I still have 2-3 patches after chipping away at lots of rock
GET RID OF THEM!!!! HTH Dan |
The anemone looks like one I have, its NOT A PEST, its actually really cool, slow growing and doesn't move around like many anemones. Hasn't multiplied either. Don't be too hasty to kill it. I forget the name, but they are actually fairly uncommon. I'll see if I can come up wioth a proper ID for you.

If it is the same as what I have, it is a Phymanthus sp. anemone.

Various species of this anemone are different colours from what I have found. Mine came as a hitchhiker on my LR when I set up my tank three years ago. It was small at first, probably about 1/4". Its now only about 2" across. Apparently they have a pretty good sting, so just make sure you give it a bit of space from your corals. Mine has never moved, even when I have re-aquascaped and repositioned the rock it's on, so just room enough that it won't inadvertantly get touched by a coral.
