Angel fish - let's see some

Here is my favorite "little angel" I have had it for about 8 months now I think

And of course my big brute

Snappy 01-08-2007 12:24 AM

Okay I'll bite. Here are my two dwarfs. These fish are both very camera shy so it's hard to get a decent picture. Both these photos were taken of a much larger tank area and the fish were cropped out & magnified so the quality is poor.
This flame is a new arrival that I've had only for a few weeks. (lives in my refugium)

Coral beauty I've had for about 2 years.

I actually got him from HockeyNut (Calum) when he shut down his tank (a moment on Silence please)

He special ordered him.

I'm sure OA or HR or JL or or or could get you a pair

Hah, old fish I use to have. Passed them on to friends since. And trust me, you don't want anything of the last one, he's a monster.

EmilyB 01-08-2007 04:46 AM

Really tho, how long have you kept anything Albert ?

Here's my cortez, I think it is starting to change coloration. How long does that take Ruth ?

I don't have any angel fish, but I do have a heavyweight (see fat) Starky damsel that's the size of some dwarf angels.

I'm not sure - my Goldflake and Conspic. were the colours they are when I got them so I have never been through a colour morph.

Wow what a thread. Absolutely stunning photos everyone!!!!!

Flame and potter's in the same tank, how's that working out?

I have a potter's, would love to get a flame, but have been reluctant since I hear it's kinda hit and miss for them getting along (or is that overstated)?

Finaddict 01-08-2007 04:43 PM

no- not in the same tank
flame in the 120g and potters in my 90!

OCDP 01-08-2007 05:36 PM

Nice shots everyone. Angels are such colorful fish.

Richard_Dicosimo 01-08-2007 07:45 PM

Tony if it means anything i have 2 albi's in my tank and im not sure if they are male/female but they get along great they stick together pretty good too!

Richard

Delphinus 01-08-2007 08:16 PM

One thing I was (well..still am, technically) tempted on, for when I get my 280g online, is a small school of potter's. Supposedly this can work out well if they form a harem (or is a sharem? I forget if they start off as males or start off as females). But I suppose having a flame in that mix would be a no-no then. (But then I have others tanks still, sooo ... hmmmm.)

Anyhow just to try to keep this on-topic I will try to photograph my potter's later tonight with my new toy. I finally got a DSLR to use my glass from my 35mm SLR, so hopefully this will open up new photo-ops for me. :)

Ooo awesome pics everyone. I would love to get my hands on a pair of wantabe's angels for my reef tank... they are pretty cool for a reef-safe angel!

We'll have to post a pic of our queen angel, he's nearing his color morph completion and is looking stunning!

Delphinus 01-18-2007 06:23 AM

Serendipity - got this shot trying to take a picture of the gorg frags. Then the halides turned off and was actinic only. Then I spied the angel perfectly framed, this never happens so I took the shot and let the flash fill in the colour. So it's a bit washed out but otherwise I'd probably never get another chance like that.

Potter's angel - she has an amazing blue rim that just glows (maybe it's the actinics?). I hope I can catch it on a picture some day, it's wicked. :)

Have to say I really dig the Centropyge's.

Chaloupa 01-18-2007 07:06 AM

Tony-nice angel!!! Was tempted to have a potter's but chickened out as I had heard they were a bit tougher to keep....yours is beautiful!!! nice pic!

HAHAH! You dreamin' man.

Delphinus 01-18-2007 04:41 PM

Thanks Sarah. :) Are they reputed as more difficult? That's not been my experience so far. This one here is actually my second. My first perished in a .. "tragic anemone-moving accident" I guess I'll call it (before I realized how easily my ritteri can kill off an entire tank of fish just because it's annoyed). ). She was the best little fish, and I was impressed at how clever she was. She would act like a tang near a tank, act like a blenny near a blenny... and basically steal their food when they weren't looking. As long as any other fish likes a particular piece of food, she'll notice that and after that I'll never have a problem feeding her that particular kind of food. Nori, flake, pellets, mysis, etc.

This one I got from Willito a few months ago. Was quite timid at first and got bullied by my 6line wrasse. I tried catching my 6line (there was a thread about that escapade). But after a few weeks she was settled in and not being bullied anymore, and she's grown quite a bit since then. Same deal as my first one, I noticed she observes things and then modifies her behaviour accordingly.

Anyhow sorry for the rambling!

Chaloupa 01-18-2007 08:52 PM

Hey Tony! Rambling is good.....I think I will attempt one in my next tank. I really like the look of the Potters so I think I am sold on one!

Potters Angels are listed as Expert Only on liveaquaria :)
so that must make you an expert only... :)
I've been looking for one in Calgary for awhile now and they always seem to sell before I can find them, I ordered one online but it was DOA...there was no water in the bag. I got credit but used it for dry goods instead. I hate ordering fish online.

I think the big problem with potters angels is getting them to eat. Try to find one that you can see is eating in the store. One of my favourite fish was a potters angel, unfortunately I lost her and my other favourite fish in the tank upgrade

Delphinus 01-18-2007 11:39 PM

That would be my guess. But once they "get it" .. boy do they get it. This one eats like a little piggy.

Chaotic Cricket, yeah I agree, you don't see too many in the stores lately. Both mine came from fellow Canreefers.

AndyL 01-18-2007 11:59 PM

Here's my old 6-bar angel at his favorite cleaning station... He killed off all his tank mates, ate all the corals I tried to introduce to the tank; I hear a yellow tang did him in when he was sent to live elsewhere...
