Who is @ Work Today

I working today, it sucks. and the boss just said today doesn't even count as a stat.

Delphinus 11-13-2006 04:38 PM

I'm at work .. I think although it's a stat day we trade this one for an extra day off around Christmas.

That said it's a super slow day. ..

TRIX 11-13-2006 04:39 PM

Yah I'm working too. But at least I has my labtop that travells with me so I still get Canreef.

Thats what I thought, until he explained that if the holiday falls on a weekend then its not a stat. Is this correct?

Delphinus 11-13-2006 04:43 PM

I wouldn't have thought so .. I'm not sure how you'd confirm that. Are the labour laws online?

Joe Reefer 11-13-2006 04:45 PM

I just decided to work at a steady 1% effort today. That'll teach'em.

AndyL 11-13-2006 04:50 PM

In general when a stat falls on a weekend, you're given the monday. Not sure if that's in labour law or just standard practice.

I'm not working yet (have to stop in later to get some parts unloaded from a truck (arriving.... around now) assembled then readied for delivery/install tomorow. But at least it translates into getting the 27th of december off...

Jason McK 11-13-2006 04:51 PM

I'm at work also. but working from home.

Joe your boss is not following Canadian Labour Laws. If a Stat falls on a week end. Either the Monday or the Friday should be given as Stat.

I'm at work... but I'm getting paid well to be here today

I would still much rather be in bed sleeping..

DanG 11-13-2006 05:11 PM

Not considered a stat holiday in manitoba unfortunately, so I'm at work.

SeaHorse_Fanatic 11-13-2006 06:22 PM

Working at home. It's a normal work day for me since I'm "self-employed" so stat or no stat, doesn't matter. If there's work to be done, gotta do it.

PFFFTTTT of coarse I am......24/7.... 7 on 7 off  anyone ever known me not to be working?

Joe Reefer 11-13-2006 07:23 PM

Do you normally work Saturdays? If so, did you get that day off? (With regular pay).
I'm not totally up on the labour laws but it's my understanding that if a stat falls on a day you work then you either get the day off with straight time pay or you work it and get paid time and a half in addition to your regular pay. (Some people see this as double time and a half). If the stat falls on a day you don't work, such as a weekend, then you are entitled to either the Friday or the Monday as the stat. (ie: either of those days off with straight time pay, or work the day and get the extra pay). I'm pretty sure anyone that has a job is entitled to compensation one way or the other, whether they work the stat or not. I know I get 8 hours pay for every stat I don't work and compensated accordingly for every stat I do.
IMO, your getting ripped off.
Edit: Maybe it's different in Alberta, but I doubt it. You guys are rich.

Tarolisol 11-13-2006 08:12 PM

If the stat falls on a not normally worked day, for example saturday, you arnt entitled to any sort of compensation. Many places give you an extra day off but that is at there discretion.
