RBTA Takes a Dump Video

Finally had the time yesterday to shoot our RBTA pooping....

(320 x 240 pixels, 9.0 MB, 2.13 minutes)

Joe Reefer 08-25-2006 06:38 PM

That is one spoiled RBTA! Once again great video Bev.

BMW Rider 08-25-2006 08:27 PM

You forgot to wipe

Reefer Rob 08-25-2006 08:38 PM

Turkey baster bidet?

Murminator 08-25-2006 09:57 PM

"RBTA Takes a Dump Video " I roared when I seen that heading I thought CAN"T be Bevs....wow was I wrong  I think the poor little guy need a newspaper to read or something....must be pretty satisfying lose all your energy like that

Quagmire 08-25-2006 11:55 PM

Ahh sorry guys I cant go out tonite,I have to baste my RBTAs butt

Cool idea,Im going to be doing it now

Canadbis 08-26-2006 12:44 AM

Cool vid!!
I guess I may have seen it all now
lol

Beverly 08-26-2006 02:03 AM

LOL!! You guys crack me up  OMGosh, a pun

Running our 120g without a skimmer, it makes a lot of sense to export those RBTA nutrients before they become some kind of algae problem down the road. Too bad we couldn't get the GBTA to poop when we're around

Snappy 08-26-2006 04:31 AM

The background music makes it seem like such a classy event. I find that some of my fish eat the biproducts of my BTA, so rather than deprive them the meal perhaps I'll play some classical dinner music since it goes so well with the BTA waste removal process.
Bev you do make some interesting but very cool video's.

Beverly 08-26-2006 05:07 PM

Greg,

What kinds of fish do you have that eat anemone waste? Also, how often do you feed your fish?

Snappy 08-27-2006 04:37 AM

My tangs will eat anything and are always hungry, especially the hippo. They are equal opportunity fish and will eat other's waste as well, not just the BTA.

EmilyB 08-27-2006 07:32 AM

I didn't want to watch, but whoa....that is pretty freaking odd..

agreed...

Beverly 08-28-2006 02:09 PM

Hmmm. What do you find so odd about the video?

Beverly 08-28-2006 05:59 PM

Have just been reading up on anemones at WetWebMedia....

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/anempt2.htm

Quote:

The removal of regurgitated food in mucus balls and bands through netting and siphoning must be a regular maintenance feature. Digestible foods are converted almost entirely into ammonia...to be removed by system filtration. Some filter-feeding anemones produce mucus nets, pass them up and over, trapping particles and ingest the whole mass. Mucus strands from locomotion and filter-feeding do not appear to be toxic.
Seems like anemone waste removal is a recommended practice. Who wudda thunk it?

Well, I'm sitting here thinking to myself that us reefers have hit an all time low with this thread.

Someone delete this thread fast, before anyone finds out that we're all looney!

AJ_77 08-28-2006 06:58 PM

No, it's fine - I used to fish out carpet poop too... not going to argue the merits of removing such gross waste from a closed system.

It's just... well, the anemone-butthole-syphoning sequence was a bit too much for my sensitive nature. Certainly one of the oddest things I've seen on video.

But for instructional value - hey - it can't be beat.

PhatSOB 08-30-2006 03:06 AM

what kind of turbo? snail is that to the right of the RBTA in the video. I have 2 of them and have not seen a pic of them anywhere that I can find.

Great video by the way!!

Beverly 08-30-2006 03:42 AM

PhatSOB,

Geez, don't know what kind of snail it is. Some kind of turbo or astrea, but I can't remember now. Must be old age

Quagmire 08-30-2006 03:51 AM

Looks like an astrea.something similar to this maybe?

Click on the back button on the left( under the lettered links) to see other astrea shells

PhatSOB 08-31-2006 03:29 AM

thanks guys, that info helps, even if I can't pronounce it. There are quite a few at that link that are quite similar.
