User names

Hey all,

I'm just curious about why some of you have the user names that you have. Some are pretty obvious (I.E. fortheloveofcrabs) but some are little more obscure. I'm wondering, and I bet many other 'normies' are too, of how and why the names came to be, so lets hear it!

demon666 06-26-2006 08:17 PM

i picked demon cause i use it to log into other sites so i like to keep it straight and easy for me....... that way i dont have to try and remember a bunch of dofferent names and which one i use on which board...... pluse i like demons and gargoills and stuff like that...

Of course "Delphinus" is also a constellation, there's an obscure reference in Greek mythology about how a dolphin helped Arion to safety from a mutiny on his ship and in return was granted a celestial home blah blah blah .. http://www.heavens-above.com/myth.asp?con=Del

Midknight 06-26-2006 10:09 PM

BMW Rider 06-27-2006 12:08 AM

I think mine falls into the obvious category. But just in case, my first passion (and revenue pit) is motorcycles, specifically BMWs. My current ride is a 94 R1100RS.

OCDP 06-27-2006 12:59 AM

Cool thread idea.

My name is a drum company. (Orange County Drum & Percussion) They make some bad ass kits, they can customize your kit to basically whatever it is you desire. One day soon here, I'll own an OCDP kit. Here's an example of the stuff they can pull off...

List Price: $2745 (for the ONE snare drum)

Why do I choose all the expensive hobbies?

Cheers,
Scott

SeaHorse_Fanatic 06-27-2006 01:54 AM

OCDP = Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Person :) That's what I thought it stood for.

I am (for 2 decades now) fanatical about seahorses.

However, I'm thinking of changing my user name to "Coral Ho" & changing my real name to Anthony Ho, instead of Anthony Shieh.

reeferaddict 06-27-2006 04:34 AM

Well I like Canadbis but it was taken... haha... but I like reefer... and we have the best in the west... so I'm an addict... addicted to pouring thousands of dollars into an enclosed body of water, adding JUST the right amount of electricity and watching what happens... and I hit my head constantly against a wall just coz it feels SO good when I stop!

Kabong 06-27-2006 04:41 AM

Much like Demon 666 I allways try to use the same name on everything.

wetcoast 06-27-2006 04:21 PM

i simply lack creativity on the forums, yet dj out under a wide variety of aliases. mine is simply my email address.

christyf5 06-27-2006 05:52 PM

I lack creativity as well. Years ago when I signed up for an email account, Christy was already taken. I tried ChristyF and finally signed on as the 5th ChristyF as I couldn't think of anything better. Although someone mentioned that the F5 button is the refresh button which I do alot of on this website

Geofrog 06-27-2006 07:42 PM

At my first job, a bunch of us geologists had a pet aquatic frog as our mascot that we named geofrog. I liked the name and started using as my username, it stuck.

blaster 06-27-2006 08:12 PM

blaster,a really ugly porn star rodney blaster that makes me feel good about myself.

OCDP 06-27-2006 08:25 PM

 Gotta loves those ugly porn stars......

Johnny Reefer 06-29-2006 03:18 PM

Well the Reefer part is obvious, I think, and is not related to any herbs and spices. Been there, done that....suffered from so called "paranoia" syndrome.....gave it up.

The Johnny part may or may not be obvious. I've always liked to refer to some people as "Johnny whoever" on occaision. Like "Johnny Salesman" or "Johnny Truckdriver". Such as...."So Johnny Truckdriver passes me and then gets into the slow lane again and slows to 70kmh!".
I must point out, too, that this characteristic of mine was adopted long before the arrogant "Johnny Fairplay" got his 15 minutes.

While I'm at it, the avatar has somewhat of a double entendre. I found it doing a "Salty Dog" image google search. It is that of a sailor, as most people refer to them (aka seaman; deckhand). It is representative of my maritime occupation and since reefkeeping is also marine related...well...there is the double entendre. Johnny is a sailor that is also into reefkeeping.

Cheers:smile:,

Xtasia 06-29-2006 04:34 PM

good ones.

I read too many romance novels. They use the work Ecstasy in every book atleast once. I didn't want to use the name Xtasi b/c people would think I'm a druggy so I settled on Xtasia.

I had a brief foray with the name Sushilicious which I utilized because people would meet me and call me Zuh Tay Sia.

Murminator 06-29-2006 04:46 PM

My friends have always called me Murminator or Murbo since about the 80's had something to due about a couple movies....before that it was Makhan Singh  if any you are old enough to remember him

DiscusZ 06-29-2006 08:20 PM

Mine is a Combination of 2 aliases I used online. Zman was one Not sure how I came up with that one as it was a long time ago. Discus well my favorite Fresh water fish of all time (that I also kept) Since Zman was used all over the place by others I combined Zman with Discus and came up with DiscusZ, I know its unique and no one is using that.

So there you have it

Funky_Fish14 07-28-2006 02:41 AM

Uhh, lets see... I like different 'funky' fish... and I like fish, and 14 is my favorite number, so I threw them all together, and use the same name on all reefing/fish forums... no one else has anything similar, so it works all the time... complex eh?

shadowboy 07-28-2006 03:37 AM

I lurk in the shadows, waiting for the dire need for a swift hand of justice, to crush whomever mixes up Acanthurus japonicus and Acanthurus glaucopareius, be afraid...actually the Hotmail suggestion thing picked it out and being to lazy to think of another I kept it...beeen 7 years now

smellsfishy 07-28-2006 05:02 AM

my sons comment after observing the mysis shrimp while feeding the tank.
oh and the fact that my wife says that i question everything. ( my reply was "what do you mean?") so it stuck.

Buccaneer 08-01-2006 12:35 AM

Well mine came from some of my forefathers were " in that game " way back when on the high seas ( apparently ) ... on most boards it is actually spelled Buccaneer but for some reason I used the only spelling that worked with a hotmail acct

So Tony ... if you get a chance can you do a change on my name for me to Buccaneer ?

Thanks

Petcrazy 08-01-2006 12:49 AM

hmm

Petcrazy was what some friends called me since at one point I had about 6 fish tanks, a few birds/parrots and a bunch of reptiles (partial rescue thing going on). Probably about 50 pets or so at one point....it's toned down now to 3-4 tanks and 3 birds (conure, cockatoo, macaw) , I found the reptiles good homes :).

MoeReefer 08-04-2006 12:48 AM

my nick name is Moe for some reason i can not remember, and i love reefing, but for the same reasons as Jonny Reefer i gave up the herbal kind a while back.

cheers
