what's your tank temp running at ?

Well mine hit 83.1 today,i'm getting a little concerned and was thinking of chilling options any thoughts ..

Chaloupa 06-02-2006 02:40 AM

My tank is higher...84+...just got my chiller as I don't want to lose shrimp and corals this year! Well worth it, hooking it up this weekend.

DEAD_BY_DAWN 06-02-2006 02:42 AM

what temp did your tank hit when you lost the shrimp/corals etc ?

Chaloupa 06-02-2006 02:53 AM

we figure it was around ... 90-92, no really my tank gets HOT (we lost some small frags too)! You should be in our house...phew!

KrazyKuch 06-02-2006 02:53 AM

I have had my tank hit 85, 86 degrees before with no ill effects, but usually it sits at 81

Chaloupa 06-02-2006 02:56 AM

also...we figured since we plan on having this tank up for many years we might as well make the investment in a chiller so we don't have to worry about the investment we have already made...and it sucks when you have something that you care about and have "made it work" and it dies due to heat

niloc16 06-02-2006 03:22 AM

my 55 gal runs at 80 and my 10gal at 82, summer time is fine because we have central air so i dont see any rise in tank temp.

Ruth 06-02-2006 03:27 AM

Man I just checked mine and I am up at 86 today - definately time for a chiller!

SeaHorse_Fanatic 06-02-2006 06:30 AM

76 degrees. Love living in basement or ground floor suites. The big test will come starting next month though.

Bartman 06-02-2006 07:23 AM

I'm at 80.4 at night and 81.5 to 82.0 during the day. I've got a temperature controller coming which I bought on eBay. I want to try for a 78-80 range.

Samw 06-02-2006 08:46 AM

LOL. 80's and 90's.... The highest my tank has hit this summer so far is about 29.5C with the lights on. Its been only 26-27C lately though. Not too bad at all. I have no idea what all this is in F and I'm not about to start learning. I'm happy with metric. Luckily, my thermometer is also only measured in metric so I won't ever get confused or have to learn the wrong units.

prosnow 06-02-2006 01:05 PM

78 :) with ac in the house my heater has to work a bit more in the summer

TheReefGeek 06-02-2006 03:30 PM

Tank is in the basement with lots of water surface and movement, temperature never varies from 78-79.

Chad 06-02-2006 04:44 PM

mine is 81.3 at night, 80 during the day..

muck 06-02-2006 04:56 PM

I like to keep it at about 80 but it creeps up during the day to around 82.5.

fortheloveofcrabs 06-02-2006 04:56 PM

Both of mine stay at a breezy 78... yay chillers!

Canadbis 06-02-2006 05:53 PM

Mine is sitting at about 82.4
Using a digital thermometer
Supposed to be a little hotter today so I think it my hit 83-84 today

mr_alberta 06-02-2006 06:49 PM

My tank on hot days usually sits at about 85. Normally it is 79 - 82.

danny zubot 06-02-2006 10:03 PM

79-80 in the winter and 82-85 in the summer depending on the type of day.

phreezee 06-02-2006 10:09 PM

Chillers are so darn expensive that I decided to get a BIG chiller for the house! LOL

My tank will travel from 79-81, but it can get as high as 84 if the house is hot.

Psyire 06-03-2006 03:19 AM

78/81 (night/day)

Rondelet 06-05-2006 06:02 AM

Normally ranges from 79-82, but I've seen it hit 84+ as the warm summer whether comes on. However, both my tank and sump are covered which causes major heat retention. In the summer I remove the lid from the sump (and have a fan going in the cabinet). Temperature usually doesn't rise above 84. If heat is an issue, and if you haven't already, you should try opening the top and covering it with something like plastic egg crate. The evaporation from the top will dissipate a lot of heat.

Samw 06-26-2006 05:47 AM

My tank hit 29.7C today with 300W of halides on. The past few weeks averaged about 26-27C. I expect it'll hit over 30 one of these days soon even with the lights off.

SeaHorse_Fanatic 06-26-2006 05:52 AM

Normally 74-76, today it hit 81 F. or 29C.

Midknight 06-26-2006 06:08 AM

Argggg

HOLY #$%@#$%:eek: have been able to keep mine at80-81 for highs with a big fan on my kitchen table. forgot it this morning  and when I got in it was @ 89, fan on high, float some cubes (made with RO water) kill the light.
No ill effect but my bristal star was trying to get out and the fish were circurling the ice with little smile in thier faces, no, I swear, little tiny smiles...

marie 06-26-2006 06:36 AM

All my tanks hit 84 today, I turned the lights off an hour early  . Can't wait for tomorrow

DEAD_BY_DAWN 06-26-2006 06:43 AM

Opening the tanks hood and useing a 4l frozen milk jug is helping alot, tanks temp remains hgh but stable at 83 no signs of stress yet ..

G1GY 06-26-2006 06:55 AM

Mine useualy runs 78-80 all the time.(With 2 250 HQI's and 2 96 watt actinics). Today it hit 82.6!

I added another computer fan to move some air and get some more evaporation. :)

RED_FIRE 06-26-2006 07:02 AM

t

i am 84/81

Manny 06-26-2006 05:30 PM

woke up this morning and my tank is at 81.1. It will probably creep up to around 83 by the afternoon. I have two computer fans in the canopy and no lights (or livestock) yet as I have just set up the tank. I will have a fan in the stand for the sump and I am thinking of putting another fan in the light canopy as well.

vanreefer 06-26-2006 05:41 PM

84 yesterday with the chiller running full blast... so happy I'm moving soon must have been 110 in my place when I got home yestersday.

phreezee 06-26-2006 06:50 PM

Just got the Big Chiller aka A/C installed last week. The tank sits at a nice 78 degrees :) Before that 82 was the norm.

Samw 06-26-2006 07:31 PM

Wow, it says that the temp could hit 34C as a high in Vancouver today.

http://www.mytelus.com/weather/land_...ns.do?code=YVR

I should have left my lights off.

Hope my tank doesn't hit >34C. Generally, my tank is 1 or 2 degrees Celsius hotter than the room temp.

Hightower 06-27-2006 02:38 PM

My tank is getting up there too. Its fan city in my place now.

What is the max temp that would be safe for the inhabitants.

Also what is a safe temperature swing?

OCDP 06-27-2006 03:20 PM

My tank has been hitting 86 , especially when it's like 29 degrees around here.. it's higher. Thank goodness I have a fan in my room, and I keep the window open. That's my big fancy chillier.

Joe Reefer 06-27-2006 03:29 PM

My tank was at 85 deg yesterday! 81 is normal. I turned the lights out 2.5 hrs early.

TheReefGeek 06-27-2006 03:39 PM

Today is getting up to 32 degrees in Edmonton, watch your tanks!

OCDP 06-27-2006 03:41 PM

Yeah , 30 degrees here ... I should have just kept actinics on all day. Crap!

The mag 18 I was sunning my skimmer with crapped out last night, so my tank should actually run cooler today!

Hightower 06-28-2006 03:44 PM

I would like to reiterate my question.

Whats the maximum safest temperature I could allow before I have to start panicking?

With all these fans going, and playing around with them, there is temperature swings from 83-77. Are most things going to adjust to that kind of swing?
