How much did you pay for your 90g-120g reef ready tank?
Hello, just curious as to what a 90g or a 120g all glass or oceanic reef ready tank costs. I am considering upgrading my tank and visited a LFS and they quoted me anywhere from $1800-$2200, and that they would have to order in. This seems a little steep to me, I know i've seen them cheaper. So if anyone could let me know what they spent and where they bought it from, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

If someone local can drill your tank & cut you some small pieces of glass, why don't you DIY the overflow. I had my 65g drilled by Chin Lee, bought the pieces of glass (8" by 4", 8" by 6" & 6" by 4") from Candu Glass in North Burnaby for $10, & siliconed it in myself. Including the bulkhead, & fittings, it was well under $50 to get it plumbed into the sump with PVC piping. Of course the return line & pump is additional, but to get your tank to Reef-ready state, it should be very economical to do it yourself. Also, no grooves are needed on the overflow edge because it's actually quieter with a flat overflow.

Thanks everybody. I have looked into getting a custom tank and may go that route. Its kind of funny that a custom built tank is cheaper than a generic store bought one.

Probably because of your somewhat remote location, a lone store in that area can typically get away with prices like that due to the majority of people not accessing resources like forums.
That is definetly quite steep. Chris |
traded my car stereo for it (deck + subs) and paid $25 to have it drilled

My 90 gallon came with a very basic stand made out of 1 inch square steel tubing (which I later closed in with wood) and it also came with a sump and most of the necessary plumbing items. It even came with a cheapy return pump, bio balls and sponge filter in the sump. I think I paid no more than $500.00 for everything at a LFS in Kelowna.

i just had a 48x24x28 tank built with center overflow and a sump for $650 here in calgary Who in Calgary? |
I'm getting together a 48x24x24. I paid only $250 for the glass, silicone, drilled holes, the tank adapter thingies (for the plumbing), and the overflow glass. Mind you, he gave me cost as a favour to my mom's work, but without the discount I would have paid only $300 for the whole kit and kaboodle.
I'm getting a steel stand from Imperial Aquariums here for $175, epoxy painted. Not a bad price for everything, I think. Didn't wanna DIY the stand because we don't have much for power tools, and I don't want a ton of water on the basement floor ;) |
I got a 94 gal custom 24x24x25 with two hols drilled for 1.5" bulkheads for 480ish
